The Opportunity:

Prospect Schools is seeking a Director of Instruction to help lead academic, culture, and student support systems at the school level. This role brings together key leadership responsibilities across instruction, student support, MTSS, special education coordination, school culture, and staff development. The Director will serve as a core member of the School Leadership Team and will partner closely with the Principal to ensure students experience strong instruction, consistent support, inclusive practices, and a safe, joyful school culture. As an educator at Prospect, you will be part of a collaborative and high-performing instructional team and will report directly to a member of the school leadership team.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

School Leadership

  • Serve as a core member of the school leadership team by participating in weekly School Management Team meetings

  • Co-plan with the Principal on school wide + content specific initiatives

  • Partner with the Principal on critical decisions and where necessary lead the development of recommendations and strategic plans (the how, when and where) in support of key decisions and initiatives started by the Principal

  • Support in the initial steps in the hiring process for roles for the content areas under their purview

  • Lead and provide professional development for Teacher Leaders (e.g., Grade Team Leaders)

Student Support Services & Special Education

  • Lead the Student Support Services department and ensure strong coordination across special education, counseling, social work, intervention, and student support systems.

  • Support and oversee the IEP Coordinator to ensure strong implementation of IEP-related systems, compliance requirements, service coordination, and progress monitoring.

  • Manage, coach, and develop the Associate Director of Student Support Services, social workers, and counselors.

  • Ensure students with IEPs receive appropriate academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports, and that accommodations and modifications are implemented consistently.

  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of FBAs, BIPs, intervention plans, and high-needs student support plans.

MTSS, Intervention & Data Systems

  • Lead or co-lead MTSS systems, including student concern review, intervention planning, data analysis, progress monitoring, and follow-up.

  • Analyze schoolwide academic, behavior, attendance, and student support data to identify patterns, define root causes, and align responsive action across teams.

  • Train teacher leaders and support staff to facilitate high-impact planning, intervention, and student support meetings.

  • Maintain clear systems for tracking interventions, documenting follow-up, and communicating next steps.

Student Culture

  • Plan and participate in all school wide events and community building activities as a representative for the school

  • Responsible for responding to tier 2 and tier 3 incidents which includes responding to the behavior, completing any documentation, conducting parent follow up and partnering with the Director of Student Supports on these activities and to deploy preventative student and teacher supports

  • Model building strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families and support teachers to do the same

  • Analyze school wide and content specific culture data and make plans to address growth areas in the data

  • Conduct classroom management professional development for all teachers and struggling content teachers/teachers under purview

  • Participate in, observe and as necessary give feedback on the execution of all schoolwide systems

Family & Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate with families regarding student behavior, academic concerns, support plans, and disciplinary follow-up in a manner that is clear, timely, and professional.

  • Partner with teachers and leaders to support productive family engagement around student progress and concerns.


About You:

  • You have earned a Bachelors Degree.

  • You have prior teaching experience.

  • You are in the process of earning or have earned a New York Teaching License Certification. (Learn more here)

Salary:

The salary range for this role starts at $108,000, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
