Job Description:

Dow Jones Risk Journal is seeking an experienced journalist to help edit and direct coverage of global risk, compliance and regulatory issues affecting companies and financial institutions.

The position calls for a multi-talented editor who possesses an understanding of - or eagerness to delve into - regulatory areas such as sanctions, human trafficking, anti-corruption and financial crime, as well as geopolitical, cybersecurity, climate and supply-chain risks.

Dow Jones Risk Journal serves an audience of risk, compliance and legal professionals as well as executives throughout businesses who are responsible for assessing and mitigating risks. It comprises a digital platform, podcast, analytics, newsletters and events.

The publishing editor will help direct coverage from Asia and Europe; be responsible for final editing and publishing of articles; and curate and prioritize coverage.

This editor must have a keen understanding of the needs of business and financial professionals, and be capable of publishing top-quality journalism that informs readers, puts news developments into context and provides actionable analysis.

This editor should approach journalism from the perspective of ensuring it can help the readers in their day-to-day work. This includes practical takeaways that can be applied by risk and compliance professionals to enhance their policies, programs or strategic discussions.

Strong written English, excellent news judgment, a close eye for detail and the highest standards are required. The candidate also should have an eye toward how to use visuals and data, when appropriate, to enhance storytelling.

An ability to quickly grasp technology and content management systems is critical. Collaboration and communication with others in the global newsroom is required.

You will:
  • Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify news of importance to the Risk Journal audience. Help drive coverage and work with reporters to refine reporting and writing
  • Edit copy to ensure it is clear, accurate, fair and provides context
  • Uphold the standards, ethics and integrity of a Dow Jones journalist
  • Understand the Risk Journal audience and relevant current topics and trends
  • Communicate precisely and professionally. Be proactive rather than reactive
  • Be a part of an ambitious newsroom with a can-do, startup culture. Embrace change

You have:

  • Ability to multi-task; edit quickly and accurately; and remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Ability to write compelling headlines and captions, and select visuals and data to complement and help tell stories
  • A collaborative mindset and are flexible and professional
  • Relevant subject matter expertise and an eagerness to learn new subject matter
