Job Description

Senior Property Underwriter

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Senior Property Underwriter in the United States.

This role sits at the center of a fast-growing Commercial Excess & Surplus Property underwriting unit, where technical expertise meets entrepreneurial execution. You will be responsible for building and managing a profitable portfolio of complex property risks while shaping how products are positioned and delivered in the wholesale market. The position combines deep underwriting judgment with commercial relationship management, requiring close collaboration with broker partners and internal teams. You will influence pricing, terms, and portfolio strategy while helping define underwriting guidelines and market approach. Success in this role comes from balancing disciplined risk selection with growth ambition in a highly competitive environment. It is ideal for an underwriter who thrives in autonomy, enjoys building long-term broker relationships, and wants direct impact on portfolio performance.

Accountabilities:
  • Evaluate commercial E&S property risks at the account level, applying appropriate terms, pricing, and coverage structures within underwriting authority and program guidelines.
  • Build, manage, and grow a profitable underwriting portfolio while maintaining long-term relationships with wholesale distribution partners.
  • Collaborate with home office underwriting and distribution teams to define program parameters, refine appetite, and ensure consistent execution.
  • Position and differentiate products in the market by clearly articulating coverage advantages and competitive value propositions to broker partners.
  • Partner with actuarial and analytics teams to interpret portfolio trends and adjust underwriting strategy, pricing, and risk selection accordingly.
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement of underwriting processes and distribution performance.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of commercial property underwriting experience, ideally within E&S or specialty insurance markets.
  • Proven track record of managing a profitable book of business and strong wholesale broker relationships.
  • Strong technical underwriting expertise, including risk evaluation, pricing, and portfolio management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with data to guide decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field preferred. CPCU or ARM designation is a plus.
  • Self-starter mindset with strong organizational skills and ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary ranging from 116,000 to 152,000 USD, plus discretionary incentive bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and retirement plans.
  • Paid time off and standard holiday benefits.
  • Performance-based incentives aligned with portfolio profitability and growth.
  • Opportunity to build and shape a high-growth underwriting unit with significant autonomy.
  • Exposure to complex, high-impact E&S property risks and strategic broker relationships.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with strong focus on innovation and results.
