About This Position
Under general direction, the Recreation Services Manager is responsible for the leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight of the Recreation Division within the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. This role plays a key part in shaping the quality of life in the community by developing and managing a diverse portfolio of recreation programs, special events, and facility operations including community centers and senior centers.
The Recreation Services Manager works collaboratively with internal staff, community stakeholders, and appointed commissions to ensure the delivery of inclusive, innovative, and high-quality recreation services that reflect the needs and interests of residents of all ages.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic and experienced recreation professional with a passion for community engagement and public service. They possess strong leadership and organizational skills, a strategic mindset, and a commitment to inclusion in program development. Experience working with commissions and advisory boards is highly desirable.
- Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Recreation Division.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive city-wide recreation and leisure services program.
- Oversee the management of recreation facilities including community centers and senior centers.
- Lead the planning and execution of special events and seasonal programs.
- Provide high-level staff support to the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts.
- Administer and serve as liaison to Council-appointed commissions including the Parks & Recreation Commission, Senior Commission, and Youth Commission.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and manage budgets, contracts, and program performance metrics.
- Collaborate with other divisions such as Parks Management and Cultural Arts to ensure integrated service delivery.
