Silver Birch Living and Vermilion Development are growing — and we're looking for a driven, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to grow with us.

Silver Birch Living is a regional leader in affordable assisted living communities across four states, serving over 1,400 residents and leading the market in quality and resident care.

Vermilion Development, based in Chicago, specializes in the development of affordable assisted living communities and is actively expanding its portfolio.

As both organizations continue significant growth and expansion, we are adding a Senior Accountant to support accounting operations for new construction projects and ongoing community management.

This role serves as a core accounting team member supporting both:

• Bank reconciliations

• Expense control reviews

• Variance analysis

• Monthly journal entries

• Financial planning & analysis

• Financial reporting support

• Monthly accounting for projects under construction

• Preparation of construction draw requests

• Journal entries for month-end close

This position is office-based in the Chicago Loop and works closely with finance leadership to support financial accuracy, reporting integrity, and strategic growth initiatives.

• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes

• Analyze financial statements for accuracy and GAAP compliance

• Prepare monthly financial statements with variance analysis

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes

• Assist with construction draw requests and project-based accounting

• Support external audits and research accounting matters

• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes

• Oversee fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules

• Participate in financial analysis and operational analytics

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)

• 2+ years of accounting experience (public accounting preferred)

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting

• Experience with financial statement preparation and month-end close

• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., MRI, NetSuite, PCC or similar ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel

• Advanced Excel skills (SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, IFS, pivot tables)

• Understanding of internal controls and risk management

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to learn new systems and adapt in a growing environment

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
