The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Requirements:
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of NJ
- Certified Nurse Practitioner in the State of NJ
- Master's in Nursing from an accredited program
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
- Three + years of cardiac/ critical care experience as APP preferred.
Overview:
The Cardiothoracic APP is a registered professional nurse who functions within prescribed guidelines, as an independent care provider in collaboration with the Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiac Critical care intensivists in the management of pre-post operative Cardiothoracic patients, Heart Transplant patients, lung transplant patients, Advanced heart therapies patients and structural heart patients.
Care is provided to inpatients in the state-of-the-art cardiac surgery intensive care unit.
The NP serves as a resource for nursing staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team in regards to patient care and disease management.
Responsibilities:
- Complete individual daily rounds and/ or participate in multidisciplinary rounds with attending physicians on all inpatients and documentation of medical plan
- Obtain patient histories and perform physical examinations, Complete appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the medical record in a timely manor including admitting, and transfer orders
- Manage discharge of patients with appropriate disposition, follow up planning, adjunctive therapy management and education
- Prepare patients for surgery, including but not limited to counseling in preventive care, medical problems, exercise the use of pre orders and evaluates pertinent diagnostic tests including Radiology, Laboratory, EKG in accordance with protocols
- Able to interact with coworkers, patients, staff to instill confidence and facilitate communication and work in a team environment
- Ability to identify normal and abnormal findings and initiate appropriate follow-up and effectively communicate with others those results
- Safely performs clinical procedures such as but not limited to removal/insertion of invasive drains, catheters, monitoring devices, pacing wires, PA catheters, chest tubes, and suturing minor wounds if appropriate.
- Write appropriate postoperative orders including general and specific nursing care, respiratory therapy and ventilator settings, medications, including inotropes, laboratory and radiologic studies
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
- Maintains BLS, ACLS certification and provides emergent medical intervention as needed until physician arrive
- Participates in formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures and maintains current knowledge in the field of practice and informs staff of changes
- Participate in preoperative-postoperative, quality assurance and morbidity and mortality conferences
