Job Description

***REVISED*** Postdoctoral Research Associate
Princeton University: Office of the Dean of the Faculty: Engineering: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering

LocationPrinceton, NJ

Open DateApr 01, 2026

Salary Range or Pay Grade $65,000 - $75,000 a year

Deadline Apr 01, 2027 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description

The Deike Research Group in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at Princeton University invites applications for postdoctoral and more senior research positions (higher rank will be considered based on experience). The candidate will be working at the intersection of the Deike (MAE/HMEI/PPPL) and the Weichman (Chemistry/PPPL) labs; with strong ties to other members of the Simons Foundation international collaboration on the Princeton campus (Carter, MAE/ACEE/PPPL) and beyond.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher or more senior researcher to design and develop a stratospheric conditions aerosol chamber, able to conduct long-time interrogation of suspended aerosols. The chief goals of this facility will be to address open questions surrounding stratospheric processing of particles, including aerosol aging, aggregation, and transport, as well as absorption and reflection of sunlight and terrestrial infrared radiation. The designed facility should be able to operate in conditions relevant to stratospheric processing of aerosols, in terms of pressure and temperature, and maintain such conditions over an extended period of time. Expertise in working, operating, and designing low- temperature (down to -80 to -90 oC) and low-pressure conditions would be ideal, together with a strong motivation to develop a novel experimental platform. The candidate will also be responsible for collaborating with other members of the collaborative initiative, including on optical diagnostics to probe aerosol properties in-situ.

This position is not eligible for sponsorship of an H-1B visa requiring consular processing; other visa sponsorships (including H-1B visas not requiring consular processing) may be available, as appropriate.
