EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – Internal/External

CARE Worker (Children At Risk of Exploitation)

Full-Time Permanent

Location – Kenora

POSITION SUMMARY:

Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services (AAFS) is seeking a dedicated CARE Worker (Children At Risk of Exploitation) to deliver specialized child welfare services as part of our anti-human trafficking strategy. This full-time permanent role focuses on providing trauma-informed, culturally safe services to children and youth who are trafficked, at risk of trafficking, or require protection. Working in alignment with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), Ontario’s Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy, and AAFS protocols, the successful candidate will collaborate with internal teams, First Nations, police, and the Kenora Human Trafficking CARE Team to promote safety, wellness, and culturally grounded support for vulnerable children and youth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Social Work or a related human services degree; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in child welfare, community-based, or human trafficking prevention services.
  • Strong understanding of the CYFSA, Ontario Risk Assessment Model, and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe cultural practices, community structures, and First Nations governance.
  • Familiarity with the MMIWG Report and commitment to survivor-centered practices.
  • Experience engaging with high-risk youth and delivering intensive case management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with police, legal, medical, and child welfare systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and child welfare case management systems.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possession of First Aid and CPR certificates an asset
  • Extensive experience working with a computerized data base
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Committed to ensure the highest level of confidentiality at all times
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License, be willing to travel and provide Driver’s Abstract, and
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position requires repetitive movements, especially keyboarding, and sitting for long periods of time at a desk, perhaps sharing a workspace with other colleagues in an atmosphere adhering to strict deadlines. Includes working in high stress social settings, being called out with no notice to emergency situations, driving to semi-remote Anishinaabe communities on rough and winding class “C” roadways and in various weather conditions, exposure to diverse living conditions and community environments and different sociocultural milieus.

Benefits: AAFS offers 4 weeks of paid vacation, Extended Health, Dental, AD&D, and Group Life benefits to this position after one month of employment as well as voluntary participation in our Pension Program

Salary Range: $69,095.25 to $ 84,740.70
