Job Description
The senior or executive director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) will drive efforts to articulate the value of important innovation and shape the market to drive access for patients and growth for the organization. This is done through a collaborative approach understanding the disease landscape and potential bottlenecks, critically assessing clinical and health economic evidence, and modeling the impact of our technologies and translating the knowledge in a way to influence internal and external partners.
The senior or executive director of HEOR will manage, evaluate, and complete projects consistent with company goals. This position is responsible for providing HE evidence and analysis of the value, costs, and outcomes of new pharmaceutical products. This includes assessing clinical efficacy and safety, patient reported outcomes (e.g., health-related quality of life), economic analyses (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact), and the overall benefit to the healthcare system. The senior or executive director will work closely with Viking’s Market Access lead supporting strategies and tactics that optimize access and reimbursement of Viking products. This can include constructing value-based agreements, developing payer tools, spearheading research collaborations, or offering expert advice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The main HEOR responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
- Generating evidence to help articulate the value of important innovation and shape the market to drive access for patients and growth for the organization
- Develop product-specific evidence-based payer value proposition, including the value story / messages
- Develop HEOR-focused publication plan focused on high impact publication content
- Analyzing and drawing insights from data (e.g., clinical datasets, claims data, electronic health records)
- Drive real world evidence-based studies and publications
- Drive, review or adapt health economic tools, including cost-effectiveness analyses and budget impact models
- Drive global projects and/or process improvement initiative
- Work with research and development and other groups as required to develop the strategy for generating clinical and economic data to support reimbursement and market access decisions
- Collaborate with medical science liaisons, sales partners and marketing teams to provide field-based reimbursement/market access education, training and support
- Provide pragmatic reimbursement support to sales partners and customers such as physicians, hospitals, investigator sites, and medical specialty societies (including education and support regarding coding, coverage, billing and occasional claims auditing)
- Build a field-based Health Economic focused MSL team as required to partner with field organizations, drive payer coverage, and support customers
- Understand business needs, and build credibility and rapport with colleagues
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Prior experience leading health economics, health outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, epidemiology, health policy, and related research methodologies in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries
- Minimum 15-20 years of relevant experience with an advanced degree in a related field (e.g PhD, DrPH, PharmD, MS)
- Working knowledge of FDA and ICH regulatory guidance and regulations.
Knowledge and Skills
- High degree of proficiency Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook Internet applications, WebEx, Zoom
- Strong analytical skills, able to analyze and interpret complex data from multiple sources
- Able to critically appraise clinical/health data
- A strong teammate with initiative who collaborates well with internal/external partners
- High attention to detail and excellent proofreading and editing skills
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a positive and collaborative fashion
- Ability to multi-task, professional demeanor, strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated individual with a highly entrepreneurial style coupled with self-confidence and a positive attitude
- Must be dependable; someone willing to go the extra-mile to get things done
- Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Description
$225,000.00 - $275,000.00 annual salary
