Job Description
General Responsibilities:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for the on-going analysis of a hybrid standard/actual cost based system. Cost Accounting provides detailed cost information, analysis and insight to management for strategic decision making. The Cost Accountant must be able to prioritize and work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. They must have the ability to work in a team environment with various departments and diverse personalities.
Specific Duties:
- Review and analyze labor, material, purchase price and overhead variances
- Interact with Operations personnel to ensure accurate inventory reporting and strong internal controls. Assist in overseeing plant-wide cycle count program.
- Prepare reports comparing standard costs to actual costs. Ensure cost accuracy by reviewing BOM structure and Items cost.
- Work cross-functionally to prepare detailed cost estimates for new and existing products. Analyze changes in product design, sourcing and manufacturing methods to determine cost impact. Provide cost detail for make-buy decisions
- Attend Cost Review Meetings. Clearly and concisely explain cost estimates, costing assumptions and primary cost drivers.
- Assist in the annual Standard Cost Update process
- Participate in tracking and monitoring of site wide inventory control plan (ie, cycle counting & risk management)
- Support month-end closing process. Includes preparing account analyses, making journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly financial reporting related to inventory, variances, absorption and key performance metrics.
- Support the annual external financial audit
- Other accounting or financial tasks as required by the CFO, Controller or Manufacturing Finance Manager
Qualifications (specify required or desired):
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience is required. Would also consider a well-qualified candidate with an Associate’s degree in Accounting for a temp to full-time transition.
- Work experience in a manufacturing environment desired. Industrial manufacturing experience preferred. Hands on experience with Bills of Materials (BOM’s) a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills a must. Must possess the ability to interact with different functional areas to achieve a common goal.
- Demonstrates initiative, often seeking out additional responsibility; identifies problems and solutions; thrives on new challenges and adjusts to unexpected changes; possesses ability to work independently
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Experience with SyteLine or a comparable ERP system is helpful
Compensation: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 annual base salary based experience
