About This Position
This position is assigned to the City of Bexley Streets Department and requires applicants to either currently hold a CDL-B license, or obtain during the probationary period. Additionally, applicants should have experience with concrete work and heavy-duty equipment operation. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7:00a-3:30p, with occasional overtime.
Under general supervision, operates a variety of equipment to assist with maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins, sewer and water lines, performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks, utilizes hand and power tools performs other related duties are required.
Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks (e.g., shovels asphalt or other materials, mixes and pours cement, busts concrete, repairs sidewalk and curbs, builds forms, finishes concrete, patches potholes, cleans and repairs catch basins, picks up refuse from City property), operates leaf machine, chipper, sewer machine, jackhammer, asphalt roller, etc
Cleans equipment, washes and waxes vehicles, changes tires, reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
Operates truck with snow plow attachment to plow snow, and salts City streets and property to melt and remove snow and ice, runs street sweeper to clean and maintain streets, operates dump truck to pick up and haul materials.
Operates equipment to repair water lines, sewer lines and hydrants, assists in operating water jet flushing truck to unplug blocked sewer lines and does preventive sewer maintenance.
Operates backhoe and skid loader to load salt, gravel and leaves and digs ditches for installation and repair of water and sewer lines; operates blacktop grinder.
Assists other departments as needed.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and three (3) years experience operating equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and training.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to citizens, clients, and other employees of the City.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to interpret and follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations.
Must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) or be able to obtain within probationary period.
Knowledge of department policies and procedures, safety practices and procedures, traffic laws governing motorized equipment operations, water line repair, meter reading, map reading and blue print reading.

Must be insurable under fleet policy of the City.
Must be able to function effectively with team members.
