Department: Parks

Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $15.00- $21.00

Directly Reports To: Director of Parks and Facilities

DESCRIPTION

As a Part-Time staffer, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the beauty and functionality of our parks, ensuring that visitors can enjoy a safe and clean environment throughout the season. You will be responsible for performing a variety of general park maintenance duties and small projects. The hours of the position range from 6:00am to 6:00pm.

Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Experience in the field of groundskeeping is desirable.
  3. Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy.
  4. Available to work weekends and evenings.
  5. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  6. Position involves a great deal of walking and lifting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Mow grass, clean grounds, prepare picnic shelters, maintains flower beds, and perform related maintenance tasks.
  2. Understand and implement the district’s mission and values statements as created and approved by the Park District Board.
  3. Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals.
  4. Assist with carpentry, painting, repair, paint park and playground equipment.
  5. Utilize various hand tools and power tools.
  6. Operate a Park District vehicle, golf cart and/or gator.
  7. Actively support the safety program, and obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program.
  8. Promptly report to supervisor all accidents/injuries occurring within the course of employment, no matter how minor. Cooperate and assist in the investigation of any accidents.
  9. Work closely with co-workers, general population/park patrons in public areas.
  10. Must be able to work under supervision.
  11. Assist other Park District staff as needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  1. Worker may be exposed to chemicals (i.e., fertilizers, weed killers, cleaning materials).
  2. Worker may be exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  3. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment when required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, use hands, sit, stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  2. Specific vision requirements include distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  3. Employees are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline. Working in teams will also allow workers to have assistance with heavier activities at various sites.
  4. Employee must be able to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
  2. Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  3. Worker will use all required PPE.
  4. All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
