The Role

The primary responsibility of the Buyer I is to purchase materials and outsourcing needed for the company at the best rate possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtains quotes and recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtains approval from upper management as needed.
• Works with Program Management to ensure accurate flow down of information to suppliers.
• Obtains purchased items by forwarding purchase orders to suppliers, monitoring and expediting as needed.
• Ensure orders are delivered on time and at cost. Reports and maintains on time delivery metrics.
• Support cycle counting.
• Maintain effective relationships with approved suppliers.
• Support building relationships with new suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, cost, and delivery.
• Review and analyze purchase requisitions and generate purchase orders.
• Ensure timely delivery of items and follow up with vendors on late orders.
• Resolve invoice discrepancies with suppliers.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and other important data.
• Purchase materials, shop supplies, office supplies, and calibration at terms favorable to the company.
  • Price validation to get the best price.
• Evaluate and maintain current database of vender information.
• Work with Supply Chain Manager to support strategic and operations planning.
• Backup to Sr. Buyer.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School Diploma
• 2 years of related experience desired
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Customer service skills desired
• Proficient with ERP systems, preferably GSS
• Experience working in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
• PC literate, with strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Is teamwork oriented but can also work independently with little direction
• Experience working in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
• Has excellent communication, interpersonal and interdepartmental communication skills
• Excels in organizational and time management skills
