About The Role

The Head of Facilities is a key leadership position within the Operations department, responsible for developing and executing the overall facilities strategy for the organization. In this salaried, full-time role, you will oversee the planning, operation, and maintenance of all physical sites to ensure they are safe, efficient, compliant, and aligned with business goals. You will lead a cross-functional team, manage vendor relationships, and partner closely with senior leadership and other departments to support organizational growth, operational resilience, and an outstanding workplace experience for employees and visitors.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive facilities management strategy that supports organizational goals and operational excellence across all locations.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the facilities team, including supervisors, technicians, and external contractors, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee day-to-day facilities operations, including building maintenance, repairs, janitorial services, security coordination, space planning, and workplace services.
  • Establish and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and critical infrastructure.
  • Create, manage, and optimize the facilities operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services and strategic investments in infrastructure.
  • Negotiate and oversee contracts with landlords, property managers, vendors, and service providers, ensuring service-level agreements and performance metrics are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies across all facilities.
  • Partner with HR, IT, Security, and business leaders to deliver a high-quality workplace experience, including office layout, ergonomics, move management, and workplace standards.
  • Lead space planning and utilization efforts, including forecasting space needs, supporting organizational growth, and optimizing existing footprints.
  • Oversee facilities-related projects such as renovations, expansions, relocations, and office build-outs, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
  • Implement and monitor facilities policies, procedures, and best practices to standardize operations and drive operational efficiency across sites.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity and emergency preparedness plans related to facilities, including incident response, evacuation, and recovery procedures.
  • Track and report key facilities performance metrics, using data to identify opportunities for improvement, sustainability initiatives, and cost savings.
  • Champion environmental, health, and safety initiatives within all facilities, promoting sustainable practices and adherence to EHS standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes affecting facilities management and recommend improvements and innovations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience (typically 8+ years) in facilities management, operations, or a closely related field, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or head-of-function role.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multi-site or large, complex facilities portfolios in a corporate, industrial, or institutional environment.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety), maintenance best practices, and vendor management.
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations, building codes, and compliance requirements relevant to facilities operations.
  • Track record of developing and managing operating and capital budgets, with the ability to analyze costs and identify efficiencies.
  • Experience leading facilities-related projects such as renovations, relocations, or new build-outs, including project planning and execution.
  • Proven people leadership skills, including team development, performance management, and the ability to lead through change.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach to facility and operational challenges.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executives, peers, staff, and external partners.
  • Proficiency with facilities management systems, maintenance management tools (e.g., CMMS), and standard office software.
  • Ability to work on-site across one or more facilities as required, with occasional travel to additional locations or project sites.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., IFMA CFM, FMP, BOMA RPA, PMP, or similar) are a plus.
