JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, operates bio-solids (sludge) truck and related equipment to transfer dewatered biosolids from treatment plant facilities to the Prima Deschecha Landfill facility for a maximum of two trips per day.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position typically works independently on an as-needed basis and reports to the Treatment Manager.
The first review of applicants will be on December 24th, 2024.
This position is a maximum of three years based on our ability to continue biosolid transfer at the Prima Deschecha landfill.

Education, Training and Experience:
Example combinations include graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the operation of tractor-trailer/tanker/dump trucks.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid California Class A driver’s license airbrakes and tanker endorsements and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance program.

Employee must meet the following requirements which are necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this class: bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, twisting, kneeling, and reaching both to ground level and overhead; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds and/or pushes and pulls up to 100 pounds as required; holds and grips objects; subject to working in awkward positions and periods of prolonged walking, sitting, or standing. Must be able to utilize a computer keyboard and mouse.
Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, an employee uses written and oral communication skills; reads and interprets data, information, and documents; learns and applies new information and skills; and performs detailed work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily outdoors with exposure to dust and pollen; subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions; susceptible to mechanical and electrical hazards associated with equipment and wiring; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and other safety hazards due to working in and around traffic or depending upon assignment working with and around agricultural properties; subject to constant and extreme noise, poor lighting and ventilation, fumes, and odors.

- Operates dewatered biosolids truck and related equipment for the purpose of hauling biosolids from any of the District's wastewater treatment plants to the designated area. May also include hauling liquid sludge.
- Maintains simple records and logs as required.
- Loads, unloads, and maneuvers a variety of materials and equipment such as biosolids, grit, dewatered screenings as required.
- Drives vehicles and equipment with both standard and automatic transmissions to a variety of work sites.
- Reads and applies instructions and labels for product and equipment operation.
- Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures.
- Responsible for safety checks on the equipment used, and reports needed repairs.
- Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment used for the biosolids program.
- Performs related duties as required.
Ability to:
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Operate commercial vehicles including but not limited to tractor-trailers or tanker trucks in a manner consistent with safety principles, state and federal regulations.
- Operate vehicles with both standard and automatic transmissions.
- Accurately document and maintain simple records and logs as well as brief reports.
- Read and apply instructions.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Interact effectively and courteously with associates and the public.
- Maintain a safe driving record pursuant to District standards.
- Work independently.
- Exercise sound judgement in emergency situations.
- Meet the physical requirements established by the District.
- Principles, procedures, and equipment involved in the transfer of biosolids and the safe operation of tractor-trailer rigs, tanker trucks, dump trucks, and other equipment.
- Basic maintenance and repair of commercial trucks and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safe driving practices.
