Funder Relations Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Funder Relations Manager based in the United States.

This role sits at the center of institutional fundraising strategy, responsible for cultivating and managing high-value foundation relationships that directly support large-scale social and environmental impact initiatives. You will steward a portfolio exceeding $6M in foundation revenue, ensuring strong engagement, accurate reporting, and long-term partnership growth. The position combines relationship management, strategic grant writing, and cross-functional collaboration with program and finance teams to translate complex impact work into compelling funding narratives. You will play a key role in shaping funder engagement strategy, from prospect qualification to renewal planning and reporting cycles. This is a highly collaborative role requiring both strategic thinking and strong execution in a mission-driven, justice-oriented environment. You will also supervise a junior team member, helping strengthen internal systems, research capacity, and grant operations.

Accountabilities
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a $6M+ portfolio of foundation funders, developing tailored stewardship and engagement strategies to deepen long-term partnerships.
  • Lead the development of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports that clearly communicate impact, strategy, and organizational priorities.
  • Manage end-to-end grant cycles, including compliance tracking, reporting deadlines, renewal planning, and award condition monitoring.
  • Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather accurate data, budgets, and outcomes for funder deliverables.
  • Oversee funder engagement activities such as briefings, newsletters, and conferences in collaboration with leadership.
  • Supervise and guide the Development Data and Research Coordinator, setting priorities for research, CRM management, and pipeline tracking.
  • Translate foundation research and prospect insights into tailored fundraising strategies and compelling narratives.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent CRM records of all funder interactions and portfolio activity.
  • Partner with leadership to define annual fundraising goals and support overall resource mobilization strategy.
  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration across communications, programs, and finance to strengthen funder-facing materials and storytelling.
  • Support internal learning, planning, and organizational culture initiatives aligned with mission and values.
Requirements
  • 3–5+ years of experience in foundation relations, institutional fundraising, or grant writing.
  • Proven track record of managing a foundation portfolio and securing philanthropic grants.
  • Experience writing and managing full-cycle grants including proposals, LOIs, and financial/impact reports.
  • Strong understanding of grant compliance, reporting requirements, and renewal processes.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage donor pipelines, communications, and relationship tracking.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex funding calendars simultaneously.
  • Experience collaborating across program, finance, and communications teams to produce funder-facing materials.
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring junior staff with clear accountability and support structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong storytelling ability.
  • Strong project management, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to social, racial, and environmental justice and alignment with mission-driven work.
  • Preferred experience managing $6M+ foundation portfolios or working in coalition/advocacy funding environments.
  • Familiarity with funder engagement strategies such as briefings, newsletters, and donor conferences is a plus.
  • Experience working in remote or distributed teams is preferred.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary range of $90,000 – $104,999, depending on experience.
  • Remote-first work environment within the United States.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Employer-sponsored life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer support.
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) and employer-funded HRA.
  • Generous paid time off, including 20 vacation days, 15 holidays, and 12 sick days annually.
  • Paid family medical leave (up to 3 months, subject to approval).
  • Sabbatical leave after 5 years of continuous service.
  • Strong focus on work-life balance, flexibility, and remote collaboration.
  • Opportunity to contribute to high-impact social and environmental justice initiatives.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment centered on equity, learning, and continuous improvement.
