Description

Job Title: Staff Physical Therapist

Department: Rehabilitation Services Department

Immediate Supervisor: Rehabilitation Services Department Manager

Position Summary:

Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing and administering physical agent modalities and procedures as prescribed by referring provider to restore function and prevent disability.

Areas of Responsibility:

  1. General Duties
    1. Assist manager with department needs.
    2. Performs evaluation, provides treatment, and schedules patients for treatment in accordance with available personnel and equipment.
    3. Assigns duties to assistants, therapy aides, and volunteers.
    4. Communicates with physicians, nurses, and social workers to discuss and evaluate patients' conditions, progress, and plans for future therapy.
    5. Prepares treatment charges according to treatment performed on a daily basis.
    6. Reports directly to Manager in all instances of problems or concerns with personnel or patient care.
    7. Completes all duties and paperwork in timely and consistent manner.
    8. Maintains productivity at acceptable level as determined by supervisor.
    9. Maintain confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA regulations.
    10. Maintains a good working relationship within and with other departments.
    11. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, recognizing psychological, cultural, ethnic and spiritual needs and differences.
    12. Adhere to State and Federal guidelines in the delivery of PT services.
    13. Supervise PTA's, Aides, and volunteers on the performance of PT duties, including orientation, treatment programs, and quality of services.
    14. Comply with the Physical Therapy and REHC dress code.
    15. Keep the PT department neat, clean, and organized.
    16. Assists in completion of departmental projects.
    17. Schedule patient treatments to reflect efficient delivery of physical therapy services.
    18. Identify and attend continuing education programs beneficial to the needs of the caseload.
    19. Supervise fieldwork level I / level II and job shadow students.
    20. Assist in developing new PT programs for patients and community.
    21. Basic computer knowledge.
  2. Skills
    1. Ability to communicate effectively and work with peers, physicians, management, staff and students.
    2. Thorough knowledge of PT, principles, practices and regulations.
    3. Ability to organize time, material, paperwork and personnel effectively.
  3. Physical Demands/Requirements

The below requirements are intended to describe the general context/requirements for performing this job.   1. Continual talking and hearing in person/on phone, vision for close work, and use of color vision needed.
  2. Frequent stationary standing, walking, ability to be mobile, grasping, pinching, lifting/carrying, and pushing/pulling.
  3. Occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, stooping, twisting, turning/pivoting, reaching overhead, keyboarding and repetitive hand movements.
  4. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. intermittently and push wheelchairs frequently.
  5. Requires bending, stooping, and reaching above shoulder level frequently and long periods of standing and walking.
  6. Physical Demand
    1. Requires writing ability and manual dexterity for applying and manipulating equipment.
    2. Cannot have physical limitations that prevent long periods of standing, and walking and frequent bending, stooping, lifting and climbing stairs.
  7. Mental and Visual Demands
    1. Requires visual attention to posture, safety with transfers and gait, supervision of correct exercises, and condition of soft tissues.
    2. Requires mental acuity to concentrate on patient treatment with other distractions.
    3. Must be able to manage time effectively and complete documentation.
  8. Orthopedic Center of Excellence skills as listed below to include Hip, Knee, Shoulder and Spine procedures.
    1. Knowledge of post-op hip and knee replacement PT treatment protocols.
    2. Knowledge of post-operative precautions and activity restrictions. Instruct and reinforce with patients, families, and caregivers appropriate assistive device(s) and precautions (e.g., hip or knee precautions).
    3. Perform evaluation, provide treatment, and schedule patients for continued treatment as needed. Provide ongoing assessment of patient stability and activity tolerance for standing, transferring and ambulating with or without assistive devices while maintaining proper alignment of affected body part.
    4. Adhere to State and Federal guidelines in the delivery of PT services.
    5. Identify and attend continuing education programs beneficial to the needs of the caseload. New employees receive a total of at least 2 hours of education related to joint replacement and spine surgery patients upon hire. Annual education is a total of at least 2 hours of education related to joint replacement and spine surgery patients per year.
    6. Assess for discharge equipment needs. Provide discharge education to include mobility, precautions, home exercise program, and assistive devices as needed.
    7. Education per current DNV requirements as defined by CR.5 DNV regulatory guidelines. Education to include eight hours on hire and annually.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Program. Current in required CEUs.
  2. Pelvic Health experience strongly preferred
  3. Currently licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota, as certified by Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy.
  4. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
Summary

We have a part-time to full-time (0.70 to 0.90 FTE, 56 to 72 hours per two weeks) in our Rehab Services Department.
