AI ML Internship in RESTON, Virginia at IFS Softeon

We are seeking an AI/Machine Learning Intern to join our internal AI team for a structured 14-week internship experience. In this role, the intern will work closely with the leader of the internal AI team and other team members on research, experimentation, development, testing, and documentation in support of meaningful internal AI initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
• Support the design, development, and testing of AI/ML models, prototypes, and internal tools.
• Assist with data collection, cleaning, preprocessing, and exploratory analysis to support model development.
• Help evaluate model performance, document results, and summarize findings for the team.
• Contribute to experiments involving machine learning, natural language processing, or generative AI use cases, as applicable.
• Write clean, well-documented code and follow team development practices.
• Participate in team meetings, project reviews, and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners as needed to understand business problems and translate them into technical tasks.
• Research emerging AI/ML techniques, tools, and frameworks and share insights with the team.
• Maintain clear documentation of workflows, experiments, and recommendations.
• Complete a defined end-of-internship project selected by the leader of the AI team in collaboration with the CTO.
• Contribute to AI-focused initiatives throughout the internship, with AI serving as a central component of both ongoing responsibilities and the intern’s defined project assignment.

Qualifications
• Recently completed a Master’s degree, or currently pursuing a Master’s degree with anticipated completion within the next year, in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with common data and ML libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Familiarity with data analysis, data visualization, and basic software development practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal form.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Interest in applied AI and using technology to solve practical business problems.
