Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Upfit Technician/Mechanic to join our Houghton Lake team. This position is responsible for installing and customizing components on medium-duty trucks to meet customer specifications. Ideal candidates will bring mechanical aptitude, a sharp eye for detail, and a genuine eagerness to grow within a hands-on, production-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Install truck bodies, liftgates, lighting systems, shelving, and accessories per customer specifications
• Perform mechanical assembly tasks including brake and tire repair; mechanical scope varies by job (engine work not required)
• Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and schematics accurately
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in compliance with shop safety standards
• Maintain quality standards, support production timelines, and communicate status updates to lead/supervisor
• Keep work area clean, organized, and in compliance with established safety protocols

Requirements:Qualifications & Requirements
• Minimum two years of experience in truck upfitting, automotive, or related mechanical work preferred
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, including marijuana
• Must be authorized to work in the United States — employment visa sponsorship is not available
• Must supply own tools and toolbox
• Must be able to work in a shop environment with a wide range of temperatures, noise levels, and odors
Facial Hair Policy
In accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), tight-fitting respirators cannot achieve an adequate facial seal when facial hair is present at the sealing surface. Employees who choose to wear a tight-fitting respirator must be clean-shaven where the device seals to the face. Facial hair that does not interfere with the sealing surface may be acceptable on a case-by-case basis. Candidates with questions are welcome to discuss this policy during the interview process.

• Regularly required to talk, hear, stand/walk, and lift/manipulate/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Frequently required to sit, reach, handle/grip, drive, use hand/foot controls, and demonstrate near/far acuity, depth perception, and color vision; may require laying on back
• Occasionally required to climb, stoop, twist, crouch, and kneel
• Extensive use of torches, welders, grinders, and hand and/or power tools
• Must be able to climb up and down ladders and other lifting equipment safely
• Must be able to work from the ground, on top of, and underneath medium- to heavy-duty trucks
