Title: Director of Technology

Salary Range: $115,000-$135,000

Location: Akron

Employment Type: Full Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Position Overview

Environmental Design Group is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Technology to lead the firm's technology vision, systems, and digital initiatives. This role is responsible for aligning technology strategy with business objectives, overseeing IT operations and vendor partnerships, and driving innovation that enhances project delivery, operational efficiency, and organizational growth. The Director of Technology will collaborate with firm leadership to identify and implement technology solutions, optimize business processes, manage cybersecurity and IT investments, and ensure the firm's technology infrastructure supports long-term success.

Requirements:
  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including leadership roles
  • Proven experience owning IT strategy, budgeting, and execution
  • Experience managing outsourced IT or MSP relationships
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure, cloud environments, and cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated ability to align technology with operational and business outcomes
  • Experience supporting CAD-based production environments
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level

Preferred

  • Experience in an AEC or consulting environment
  • Familiarity with OpenRoads Designer and Autodesk CAD tools
  • Experience driving workflow improvements in design and engineering teams
  • Vendor selection and contract negotiation experience

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and lead the firm's technology strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational priorities.
  • Drive digital transformation, workflow optimization, automation, data integration, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency and project delivery.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on technology investments, opportunities, and risks.
  • Oversee the firm's outsourced IT model, including MSP governance, service delivery, performance management, and cybersecurity oversight.
  • Lead technology projects and investments, ensuring initiatives are prioritized, delivered effectively, and provide measurable business value.
  • Optimize core AEC systems, design technologies, and collaboration platforms to support high-performing project teams.
  • Manage IT governance, budgeting, vendor relationships, software licensing, and technology procurement.
  • Ensure the security, reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of the firm's technology ecosystem.

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Local travel during business hours may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record required in accordance with company insurance standards.

Supervisor Responsibility

This position will directly supervise other associates. EDG is a teaching organization and believes in the growth and development of every associate within the company.
