Director Heart and Vascular Service Line

Position Summary
The Director of the Heart & Vascular Service Line at TH Dallas is responsible for coordinating all functions that advance clinical quality, patient outcomes, operational performance, and financial results across the full continuum of cardiovascular care. This leader operates across organizational and physician channels to support the development, integration, and execution of care delivery models, with a focus on interventional cardiology, electrophysiology (EP), and cardiovascular surgery.
This individual will lead initiatives to improve clinical quality, patient safety, access, and throughput, while supporting the planning and implementation of innovative technologies and advanced cardiac programs (e.g., EP expansion, structural heart). The role requires strong partnership with physicians and operational leaders to ensure alignment of clinical outcomes, program development, and growth strategies in a highly competitive Dallas market.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management:
Heart & Vascular Services Develops and implements effective marketing and communication plans for Service Line in coordination with THR Brand Experience. Develops effective relationships with community agencies to grow and enhance Service Line. Develops community education programs to increase awareness of Service Line. Oversees orientation process for new physicians/surgeons to ensure a smooth transition into our hospital/Cath Lab and OR. Provides leadership and support to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day functioning in H&V service line (Cath Lab/OR/inpatient units) Establishes formal means of accountability within areas of responsibility toward the achievement of established objectives and related measurable results. Directs activities that support compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards and requirements. Creates processes that support dissemination of data and information to leadership team and staff. Continuously monitors progress toward the achievement of annual and long-term key performance indicators at the hospital and THR level, implementing corrective action plans as necessary. Plan, organize, and delegate activities as required for safe, efficient, and effective operation of the service lines including active participation with other department directors and senior leadership to accomplish service line and organizational objectives and goals. Assist with physician recruitment/retention efforts, cultivate strong relationships with physician practice managers and physicians to improve communication and coordination of hospital services, and pursue and follow up on physician requests for assistance.
Human Resource Management:
H&V Services Supervises direct reports in collaboration with Physician leadership, including responsibility for determining qualifications, hiring, maintaining and improving competence, assigning work, coaching, training (e.g., orientation, in-service and continuing education), evaluating performance, compensation, discipline and terminating employment. Develops staffing plans in response to patient volume and activity in collaboration with direct reports and nursing leadership. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care as well as space and other resources for needed services. Provides leadership, coaching and opportunities for professional development to facilitate self- directed work processes, collaboration and focus on quality patient care outcomes. Functions as a positive, creative and effective leader, actively participating in performance improvement activities and consulting in implementation of education programs. Ensures appropriate staff education, promotes an environment that fosters self-directed staff, assists employees to develop and contribute to the organization, and applies human resource policies fairly and consistently. Provides rewards & recognition for accomplishments of staff particularly in relationship to H&V services. Mentors staff in problem solving, decision making, and planning activities as it relates to the H&V population.
Strategic Planning:
H&V Services In collaboration with Hospital and Physician Leadership, facilitates development of strategic, business and operation plans, focused on growth strategies to increase volume and market share. Facilitates strategic, financial and operational planning for H&V services as well as development and operation of capital and operating budgets, with special regard to new technologies and equipment and management information systems. Ensures real-time readiness and documented compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation and licensing standards and requirements within span of control. Promotes an organizational focus by establishing Service Line goals consistent with organizational goals. Proactively seeks out opportunities to develop the business and capitalize on market opportunities that are presented, or enhance existing business through established relationships with physicians, customers, and patient relations. Develops and implements physician alignment strategies. Collaborates with system to promote volume growth and facilitate best practice sharing.
Fiscal Management:
H&V Services Works with Manager on budget preparation, labor and supply cost management, and revenue enhancement. Provides innovative ideas and a disciplined management approach toward the achievement of THD financial objectives. Provides the conceptual and analytical information to illustrate how the financial investment in development initiatives contributes to the overall objectives contained in the annual operating budget. Monitors expense and coordinates cost savings initiatives (i.e. LOS reduction, supply cost control) with Hospital and Physician Leadership. Completes ongoing data analysis, including those needed to evaluate new services, expansion of existing services and contract evaluation.
Customer Satisfaction:
H&V Services
Collaborates with all customer groups to meet and exceed needs/expectations.
Incorporates customer needs and expectations into daily operations and business planning strategies.
Evaluates customer satisfaction on a regular basis to determine gaps in actual results and expectations, formulating and taking corrective measures as appropriate.
Manages customer complaints/concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Meets or demonstrates measurable progress towards achieving overall patient satisfaction targets for areas of responsibility.
Continuous Improvement:
H&V Services Oversees the delivery of patient care (in collaboration with nursing counterpart) and ensures optimal levels and continuous improvement of clinical and service quality within the Service Line for all customers. Develops and maintains Service Line scorecards focused on improving clinical quality, satisfaction, and financial indicators that includes performance targets with "best in class" comparison benchmarks. Leads regularly scheduled meetings with the Heart & Vascular Team (hospital administrators, physicians, and key staff).
Professional Accountability:
Recognizes/communicates ethical and legal concerns through established channels of communication.
Networks with peers in State/Region/Nation to share ideas and conduct mutual problem solving.
Stays current with professional field advancements, technologies, and practices.
