Job Title: IntraAortic Pump Tech
Department: Cardiac Cath Lab
Location: Rochester General Hospital
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts between 7a-7p, on-call requirement
SUMMARY:
The IntraAortic Pump Tech is responsible for providing patient care of a technical nature as a member of the Cardiac Procedural Team. Performs set up and operation of intra-aortic balloon pump in the Operating Room, Emergency Department, and Cardiac Cath Lab. Assists the Cardiac Team in the daily functioning of the Cardiology procedure rooms. Is cooperative, courteous and helpful to all members of the hospital team/OR staff as well as patients and family members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical intraoperative care in alignment with hospital policies, departmental standards, and national guidelines.
Assist with advanced cardiovascular support, including intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) setup, monitoring, and on-call coverage.
Support perfusion-related procedures, including ATS setup/processing, TEE assistance, laboratory maintenance, and management of temporary pacemakers.
Collaborate with surgical teams by assisting with room setup, sterile supply preparation, invasive monitoring lines, equipment readiness, and patient transfers.
Ensure effective inventory management by stocking heart and perfusion team supplies, monitoring equipment, and maintaining accurate records of usage.
Promote safe practices by adhering to infection control policies, identifying and removing faulty equipment, and ensuring compliance with perioperative standards.
Respond promptly to STAT pages and provide floating coverage across departments as needed.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and departmental committees to enhance clinical practice and workflow efficiency.
Support staff development by assisting with orientation, training, and competency assessments (including IABP training within 3 months of hire).
Exercise sound resource management by using budgeted supplies/equipment responsibly, accurately completing payroll, and obtaining overtime authorization when required.
Maintain accurate physician preference cards and assist in ensuring efficient case turnover.
Contribute to a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment for patients, staff, medical staff, residents, and students.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an approved school for Cardiovascular Technology preferred
1-3 years of previous experience in an OR assistant, Sterile Processing, or Materials Management role and/or Patient Care Tech experience preferred
Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $20.50 - $29.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, clinical licensure date, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
