Location: Mills River, NC 28759
Pay Rate: $18.00/hr
Shift: A shift
Description: The Packer/Inspector for the vertical extrusion line must be a diligent and detail-oriented individual. This role is crucial in the production of high-quality plastic food and blood bags, ensuring that finished products meet strict quality and safety standards before packaging and shipment. The Packer will work in a cleanroom environment, adhering to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) and all relevant safety protocols.
Responsibilities:
Product Handling & Inspection:
o Manually or semi-automatically pack extruded plastic bags (food and blood bags) into designated bags, seal and label per instructions from Supervisor or trainer.
o Perform continuous visual inspections of products for defects such as tears, wrinkles, discoloration, contamination, or any other quality issues.
o Identify and segregate defective or non-conforming products, reporting issues to the Extrusion Technician or Supervisor immediately.
o Install on the spindle and orient properly the cores for the coils to wind onto.
o Ensure proper orientation and arrangement of products within packaging according to specific product and customer specifications.
Packaging & Labeling:
o Apply correct labels, identifying lot number, and any required paperwork to packages.
o Seal packages securely using appropriate methods (e.g., tape, heat sealing) to prevent damage during transit.
o Stack and organize finished packages on cart according to established patterns and safety guidelines.
o When cart is full wheel it out into the large transfer room to the demarcation line and no further.
Safety & Cleanliness:
o Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, including the proper use of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and all Current Good Manufacturing
Practices (CGMP) such as Gowns, hairnet /beard guards, safety glasses, face masks, and gloves.
o Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area around the extrusion line and packing station at all times.
o Report any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
Material Handling:
o Move finished products and packaging materials between work areas, using your body or a cart.
o Assist with counting and staging packaging materials for the current and upcoming production runs.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in plastics extrusion, packaging, or a similar industry. Experience in medical device or food
packaging is a significant plus.
Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying product defects.
Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and recording data.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and consistently.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
Commitment to quality, safety, and adherence to established procedures.
Must be able to work in a cleanroom environment and comply with all associated hygiene requirements (e.g., no perfume, non-smoker, no fake eyelashes, nail polish, fake nails, no jewelry, no facial piercings, no facial hair).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for the majority of a shift.
Frequent use of hands to handle, finger, and feel products and packaging materials.
Regularly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
