Buyer in Colchester, Vermont at HAZELETT CORPORATION

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Buyer plays an important role in keeping materials and components available for Hazelett’s manufacturing operations. This is a fast-paced position where production needs and priorities can change quickly. The successful candidate will stay organized, communicate clearly with suppliers and internal teams, and use sound judgment to keep purchasing activities moving while anticipating what the business will need next.

This position offers a hybrid schedule after the first three months of onsite training.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Source materials and components from domestic and international suppliers, including Ebner business units. Identify and qualify alternate suppliers, with particular attention to critical components.
• Work with Engineering and suppliers to clarify technical requirements, obtain quotes, and source new or custom parts.
• Manage open purchase orders and supplier commitments. Confirm orders, follow up on delivery dates, and address delays before they affect production.
• Partner with Manufacturing and scheduling to understand upcoming needs, adjust purchasing priorities, and communicate shortages or supply risks promptly.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and cost avoidance through supplier comparisons, negotiations, and awareness of pricing and market changes.
• Prepare requests for quotes and purchase orders, and maintain accurate purchasing information in the business system so other teams can rely on it.
• Build strong supplier relationships and resolve issues involving quality, quantity, pricing, or delivery in accordance with Hazelett’s quality management system.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

• Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks at once.
• Working knowledge of integrated business systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong follow-through on projects and commitments.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience in domestic and offshore procurement preferred.

EDUCATION:

B.A. in Business Administration or equivalent professional level of knowledge that includes work experience, alternative education, and training certification.

Purchasing experience in a technical manufacturing environment is desired.

The base pay range for this full-time position is $60,000 – $75,000. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. In addition, our ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
