DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The position involves responsibility for maintaining and monitoring a uniform, standard system that identifies, labels, and controls non-consumable fixed asset property. This class differs from other positions in the inventory control area in that the work does not involve the scope of responsibility as found in Inventory Control Supervisor. The primary responsibility of an employee in this class is maintaining and monitoring inventory records to identify any surplus, shortage, duplication or loss of property. The incumbent receives general supervision from an administrative superior with some latitude allowed for some independent judgment in areas of concern and responsibility. Employees in this class may supervise a small number of Stock Attendants and/or department clerical personnel. Does related work as required.

Hiring Salary: $55,936 - $64,712

Full Salary: $55,936 - $71,336

This position is an Open-Competitive Onondaga County Civil Service position and if hired, continued employment will be contingent on qualifying for, successfully passing, and reachability off the applicable Onondaga County Civil Service Exam.

After a conditional offer of employment, a favorable background check, verification of education and work history, and illegal drug screening must be completed prior to starting employment. Proof of identity and legal work authorization will also be required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Maintains and monitors a uniform, standard system that identifies, labels, and controls non-consumable fixed asset property using inventory control software.

Maintains and monitors inventory records to identify any surplus, shortage, duplication or loss of property.

Organizes and compiles data for report preparation.

Assists department staff in physically locating, identifying, tagging, record keeping, transferring, and disposing of fixed asset property at various locations and school districts.

Makes field visits to conduct and verify periodic physical counts of all equipment assigned to each operating unit; checks this count against inventory balance, identifying and investigating any discrepancies.

Good knowledge of inventory control procedures and accountability of perpetual inventory.

Good knowledge of the methods and procedures involved with property movement.

Ability to maintain and implement inventory control procedures including the use of data processing equipment.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to organize and maintain data related to inventory and to prepare narrative and numerical reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Open Competitive

A. Two (2) years of work experience, or its part time equivalent, in the field of inventory control, including requisitioning, receiving, storage, and disbursements of materials and supplies.

Note: Successful completion of thirty (30) credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university in business administration, business management, accounting, computer science, materials management or a closely related field may be substituted for (1) year of work experience.

SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid New York State driver's license at time of appointment.
