ELECTIONS DEPARTMENT
The El Dorado County Elections Department is responsible for conducting all federal, state, county, city, school, and special district elections. The Elections Department is also responsible for processing initiative, referenda, recall, and candidate nomination petitions, precinct and district boundary maintenance, and locating polling places that are accessible to all voters.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Sr. Elections Technician role provides an opportunity to perform advanced, specialized, and technically detailed work that supports the accuracy and integrity of County election operations. Under general supervision, the incumbent administers the FPPC-mandated conflict-of-interest program, processes all candidate filings, statements, and measures for inclusion in the Voter Information Guide, and provides vital support for ballot and envelope processing. This position also serves as a lead over elections office support staff by assigning, directing, scheduling, training, and reviewing their work to ensure high-quality and timely results. As the specialist level in the Elections Technician series, this role requires strong organization, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment, and is distinguished from the Assistant Registrar of Voters, who oversees the broader planning, supervision, and evaluation of the department’s daily operations.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Administer the Fair Political Practices Commission's (FPPC) mandated conflict of interest program for designated County employees, elected officials and candidates for public office.
- Monitor mandated filing deadlines; notify and follows-up with County employees, elected official and candidates for public office regarding the need for timely filings in order to prevent FPPC fines.
- Meet with FPPC auditors to answer questions and provide information regarding the Election Department's processing of FPPC-related functions.
- Research and prepare press releases and announcements regarding seats for which candidates may file for office in various local, state, and federal elections.
- Research, explain and review required campaign disclosures statements.
- Provide detailed, accurate information regarding the election process to candidates, voters, the press and the public; research and provide information regarding rules and requirements for landowner elections and other special elections.
- Research, interpret, and explain complex FPPC and elections laws, rules and regulations.

Education and Experience:
Two (2) years of experience with elections functions or at a level equivalent to the County's class of Election Technician II.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.

In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
