Regional Director of Medical Science Liaison - Great Lakes Region

This leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced medical affairs professional passionate about driving scientific engagement and field medical excellence across a large regional territory. In this role, you will oversee and mentor Medical Science Liaison leaders while helping shape launch readiness, field strategy, and operational execution for innovative therapies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional medical and commercial stakeholders to strengthen field capabilities, deliver impactful scientific insights, and support strategic initiatives. The position offers a highly collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on innovation, patient outcomes, and professional development. With significant visibility across leadership teams, this role provides the opportunity to influence medical strategy at both regional and national levels. Extensive travel within the Great Lakes region is required to support field teams and key external engagements.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and support a regional Field Medical organization, guiding MSL managers and ensuring strong execution of field medical strategies and operational goals.
  • Drive field medical excellence initiatives, including launch preparedness, deployment planning, training coordination, and implementation of medical engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with medical affairs, franchise leadership, and global partners to align regional activities with broader organizational objectives and therapeutic priorities.
  • Oversee the collection and communication of field medical insights, enabling informed decision-making and improved cross-functional collaboration.
  • Develop and track KPIs, deployment models, and reporting structures to measure field effectiveness and operational performance.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports, fostering talent development, leadership growth, and a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with healthcare regulations, ethical guidelines, and internal compliance standards.
Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in science, healthcare, or a related discipline required; doctoral-level education (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Field Medical, Medical Affairs, or related pharmaceutical/clinical environments, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research, pharmacotherapy, FDA regulations, scientific communication, and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Proven experience leading within matrix organizations and influencing cross-functional teams in a strategic and collaborative environment.
  • Prior experience managing MSL teams, field medical operations, or launch activities is highly valued.
  • Knowledge or experience in cardiovascular or related therapeutic areas is preferred.
  • Strong communication, coaching, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently (60–70%) across the assigned region with a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
