Description: Respiratory Therapist – Pulmonary Rehabilitation CoordinatorHelp Patients Breathe Better and Live Healthier

Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants is seeking a compassionate Respiratory Therapist to coordinate our outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. This rewarding role combines patient care, education, chronic disease management, and care coordination to help patients improve their respiratory health and quality of life while reducing hospital readmissions.

DUTIES PERFORMED:

Pulmonary Rehabilitation (every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday)

  1. Check patients as referred. Verify insurance coverage and benefits prior to appointment.
  2. Schedule patient for interview, assessment, and admission and subsequent visits.
  3. Call and confirm patient one-day prior to appointment.
  4. Print and prepare charts of accepted patients.
  5. Schedule accepted patient for initial evaluation.
  6. Monitor patient vital signs before and after session. Monitor oxygen saturation and pulse during session.
  7. Help patients with pulmonary rehab when necessary.
  8. Print progress notes and charge sheet for next visit.
  9. Teach patients regarding COPD, medications, treatments, test and procedures, and how to improve quality of life. Document the education provided to patients.
  10. Submit charges to billing.
  11. Participates in ongoing Pulmonary Rehab education.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Maintenance (every Tuesday and Thursday morning)

  1. Check patient’s vital signs before and after session. Monitor patient condition during rehabilitation.
  2. Document daily progress notes.
  3. Educate patients as needed.
  4. Assist patients with their rehabilitation.
  5. Print progress notes and prepare chart for next visit.
  6. Schedule patients for their visit. Follow up with patients who are sick

Reclast (assist as needed)

  1. Check patients on the schedule and review their lab reports. Create clearance.
  2. Call and confirm patient one day prior to appointment. Encourage the use of water prior to appointment.
  3. Prepare all forms for patient to read and sign on day of infusion.
  4. Answer questions regarding IV medication.
  5. Instruct on possible side effects and how to address if necessary.
  6. Start IV and infuse reclast as per recommendation.
  7. Submit charges to the billing office.

Pulmonary Certification (annually)

  1. Complete required steps to maintain certification through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. (AACVPR)
  2. Track data for the certification process.
  3. Submit documentation to support the certification process.
  4. Coordinate training for all employees working in pulmonary rehab.
Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy (Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program) OR Associates degree in Nursing
  • Certification of Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy or National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technologist OR Registered Nurse
  • Minimum 2 years-experience in Respiratory Care following completion of AMA program.
  • Training in Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may require standing for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type at 40 wpm, operate a telephone, copier, fax machine, and such other office equipment, as necessary. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in environment which can be stressful. Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, and electronic medical record system.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with patients in the office and via phone. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick people.
