This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate tax compliance and financial integrity across state and local fuel tax obligations within a dynamic, fast-paced organization. You will be responsible for managing end-to-end fuel tax filings while supporting broader tax strategy and compliance initiatives. The position involves close collaboration with accounting teams, field operations, regulatory agencies, and external partners to ensure accurate reporting and timely submissions. You will also contribute to audit support activities, reconciliations, and general ledger accuracy related to tax liabilities. This is a detail-driven role that combines regulatory expertise with analytical problem-solving in a highly collaborative environment. It offers the opportunity to influence tax processes and improve financial controls across the organization.
- Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual fuel tax returns in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Analyze state and local fuel tax regulations and provide guidance on taxability of new products and services.
- Support fuel tax audits by gathering documentation, responding to requests, and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
- Perform general ledger entries and reconciliations for assigned fuel tax accounts in accordance with GAAP.
- Research tax-related issues and communicate findings to accounting teams, field operations, and support functions.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
- Maintain adherence to internal controls and established accounting procedures.
- Interface regularly with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to resolve tax-related inquiries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax compliance processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and SUMIFS.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Experience working with general ledger systems and financial reconciliation processes.
- Comfortable working collaboratively across departments and levels of the organization.
- Competitive compensation with a salary range of $50,000 to $69,000 based on experience.
