This senior leadership role is a player-coach position responsible for guiding a team of account management professionals across a diverse portfolio of mid-market employer groups, TPAs, coalitions, and health systems. The role focuses on driving client retention, strengthening strategic relationships, and ensuring strong financial performance across the book of business. It serves as a key escalation point for complex client and consultant matters while shaping renewal strategy and long-term partnership value. The position requires deep expertise in pharmacy benefit management and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for clients and stakeholders. Working in a highly collaborative environment, the role partners across clinical, finance, and operational teams to optimize outcomes and identify growth opportunities. It is both strategic and hands-on, combining leadership responsibilities with direct client engagement and high-impact decision-making.

Accountabilities

  • Own client retention and renewal strategy, including negotiation, risk mitigation, and execution of annual client plans.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with benefits consultants, brokers, and key employer stakeholders.
  • Oversee financial performance of the client portfolio, ensuring profitability, contract compliance, and revenue growth opportunities.
  • Identify upsell, cross-sell, and expansion opportunities aligned with client needs and market trends.
  • Lead client strategy development, including pharmacy benefit optimization, formulary design, and cost containment initiatives.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop account management team members, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
  • Partner with finance, analytics, and operations teams to ensure accurate reporting, billing integrity, and performance tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, contractual, and internal policy requirements across the portfolio.
Requirements

This role requires strong expertise in pharmacy benefit management and client services leadership, along with the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and drive strategic outcomes. The ideal candidate combines technical PBM knowledge with executive communication and team leadership capabilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PharmD, or related field) preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in pharmacy benefit management, health plan account management, or related healthcare services.
  • At least 3 years of people management or team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of PBM structures, including pricing models, rebates, formulary design, and contractual guarantees.
  • Experience managing employer, TPA, or coalition-based client portfolios with revenue or retention accountability.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder relationships including clients, consultants, and internal teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience analyzing performance data and presenting insights to senior executives.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and executive presence skills.
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance frameworks and pharmacy benefit regulations is highly valued.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage

  • Employer-matched 401(k) retirement plan
  • Company-paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) options
