Job Description
Guest Experience Host
Join the team at Salt Cottages.
Salt Cottages isn't your typical hotel, and this isn't your typical front desk job.
We're a relaxed, coastal retreat just minutes from Acadia National Park, where guests come to slow down, gather around the fire, explore the island, and create lasting memories. Our team plays a huge role in making that happen.
If you're happiest sitting behind a desk all day, this probably isn't the position for you.
But if you enjoy staying active, meeting new people, solving problems, and creating memorable guest experiences, we'd love to meet you.
Every day is different at Salt. You might spend your morning welcoming arriving guests, your afternoon delivering extra towels to a cottage or recommending your favorite hike in Acadia, and your evening lighting the campfires, making s'mores with families, or helping guests order ice cream and drinks at Picnic.
We believe hospitality happens everywhere on the property, not just behind the front desk.
What You'll Do
As a Guest Experience Host, you'll help create an unforgettable stay from arrival to departure.
Responsibilities include:
- Welcome arriving guests with genuine warmth and personalized service.
- Check guests in and out using our property management system.
- Answer phones, emails, and guest questions professionally and efficiently.
- Become an expert on Salt Cottages, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and local restaurants, activities, and hidden gems.
- Walk the property regularly to interact with guests and ensure everything looks welcoming.
- Deliver guest requests such as towels, blankets, toiletries, luggage, or other amenities directly to cottages.
- Help prepare cottages for special occasions by delivering welcome amenities or surprise gifts.
- Assist with guest concerns quickly and thoughtfully to create positive outcomes.
- Build, monitor, and safely maintain our evening campfires.
- Host evening guest experiences such as s'mores around the firepit and other seasonal activities.
- Assist guests at Picnic by ringing up food, beverages, ice cream, coffee, cocktails, and retail items when needed.
- Support breakfast and food service operations during busy periods.
- Keep the lobby, Picnic, outdoor spaces, firepit areas, and guest-facing spaces clean, organized, and inviting.
- Communicate closely with Housekeeping and Maintenance to ensure guest needs are resolved quickly.
- Help maintain inventory of guest amenities and supplies.
- Complete daily opening, closing, and operational checklists.
- Jump in wherever help is needed, because hospitality is a team effort.
What We're Looking For
The best Guest Experience Hosts are:
- Friendly, approachable, and genuinely enjoy talking with people.
- Comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and willing to help wherever needed.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors throughout the day.
- Able to walk the property frequently and remain active during shifts.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Calm under pressure and confident solving guest concerns.
- Reliable, dependable, and accountable.
- Excited to create memorable moments, not just complete transactions.
This Job Is Perfect For Someone Who...
- Loves meeting new people every day.
- Enjoys staying busy instead of sitting still.
- Wants to work outside as much as inside.
- Likes making someone's vacation extra special.
- Doesn't mind changing gears throughout the day.
- Enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.
Success at Salt Looks Like
At Salt Cottages, success isn't measured by how much time you spend behind the desk.
It's measured by the family who remembers your name because you roasted marshmallows with their kids.
The couple celebrating an anniversary because you surprised them with a bottle of wine.
The guest who tells everyone, "The staff made our trip."
If creating those moments sounds rewarding, you'll fit right in.
