Position Summary

The Aultman Clinical Unit Director (RN) is a professional nurse whose primary responsibility is to provide supervision and hold staff accountable, as well as leadership. Concentration on the day-to-day operations of a specified clinical unit(s) is their priority. The Director is responsible for operational budgets and planning. They provide input into strategic and long-term planning. The Unit Director reports to an Executive Director or Vice President and may have an assistant manager(s).

Areas of Oversight Summary

Memorial 5 North is currently a 25-bed step-down/telemetry medical unit that provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for a diverse adult population. The unit is equipped to manage a variety of medical conditions and treatments, including cardiac monitoring, oxygen supplementation, blood administration, and other acute care interventions. Common diagnoses on 5 North include GI bleed, pneumonia, and sepsis. Patients requiring inotropic therapy for cardiac or renal diseases may be maintained. In acute situations, appropriate interventions may be initiated for stabilization with subsequent timely transfer to an intensive care unit. 5 North is committed to maintaining a culture of accountability, patient safety, and continuous improvement while supporting efficient throughput and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with BSN required and MSN preferred.
  • Current, valid unencumbered OBN or multistate license to practice registered nursing pursuant to Section 4723.11 of Ohio Revised Code.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.
  • Advanced educational and experiential qualifications with consideration of the following:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience.
    • Understanding of the organization’s scope and complexity and the position’s responsibility.
    • Knowledge of the scope and complexity of the nursing care needs of the major populations served, as well as the culturally diverse and special needs of the population.
    • Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.
    • Maintain membership in a professional nursing organization required.
    • Previous leadership experience preferred.

Department Qualifications

  • Certified Nurse in Critical Care (CNCC) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained in accordance with organizational standards. Training classes are sponsored by the Education and Development Department.

  • Responsible for staffing and scheduling of colleagues within their assigned cost center(s) and providing hands-on assistance or coverage as needed.

  • Participates and provides input in strategic planning.
  • Facilitates participation of staff in organizational and unit-based decision-making councils and/or committees.
  • Maintains continual regulatory readiness.
  • Must adhere to the RN job description and competencies.

Working Conditions

Work eight hours a day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage.

Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed.

Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Every other weekend and two holidays a year, in a group rotation

Hybrid/WFH schedule available

Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate floor coverage

Cross training in all areas in the department is required.

On call coverage is assigned to cover the department schedule

Staff may be assigned to different locations within the foundation

Travel within a “XX” mile radius is required

  • 24/7 responsibility for unit/department(s).
  • On call rotation required.
  • Flexes time to interact with colleagues on off hours/shifts.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.

Department Working Conditions

  • Work at least eight hours a day. This unit requires has 24/7 coverage.

Hazardous Exposure Category

Category II - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues by exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures will be readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
