BUILDINGMAINTENANCE WORKER
DEPARTMENT: MercerCounty Library System
SALARY: $36,991- $50,422
SCHEDULE:Thisis a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) with a standard schedule ofMonday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional evening or weekend hoursmay be required in support of special programs, large-scale events, oremergency/inclement weather operations.

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
The Mercer County Library System is seeking a reliableand detail-oriented Building Maintenance Worker to support the cleaning andupkeep of both interior and exterior library facilities. The ideal candidatewill work independently, manage daily tasks alongside larger maintenanceprojects, and respond to needs arising from inclement weather or operationalpriorities. A flexible, team-oriented mindset and a commitment to maintaining arespectful and responsive public service environment are essential. Everyposition within MCLS plays a vital role in delivering exceptional service toour community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans and maintains offices, restrooms, public areas,and meeting rooms.
- Dusts, polishes, vacuums, washes windows, andmaintains floors.
- Assists trades staff with tools, setup, and clean-uptasks.
- Supports delivery operations and assists withpacking/unpacking materials.
- Empties waste and recycling bins; assists with movingbooks, furniture, and supplies.
- Sets up and breaks down rooms for meetings and events.
- Operates and maintains cleaning equipment; performsbasic painting and decorating.
- Provides seasonal maintenance (e.g., landscaping, snowremoval).
- Uses manual or electronic systems to maintain basicrecords.
- Participates in deliveries and general branch support,as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Appointee will be required to possess a valid NewJersey driver's license.
- Must have access to reliable transportation to attendtrainings, meetings, or perform assigned duties at alternate branch or off-sitelocations, as needed.
- Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50pounds.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, andequipment for various surfaces and furnishings.
- Ability to operate and make minor adjustments tocleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, polishers, floor machines).
- Capable of lifting/moving moderately heavy objects andorganizing cleaning tasks efficiently.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions and learnprocedures through demonstration.
- Maintains cleanliness and safety of assigned areas andreports hazardous conditions.
- Works cooperatively with others and keeps simplerecords as needed.
- Familiarity with basic electronic or manualrecordkeeping systems.
