Job Description
Employment Type: Full-time, W2 position with Cogent People Inc. This is a direct hire position with full benefits.
Location: Hybrid Columbia, MD (3 days onsite per week) OR Remote (as applicable to role)

Job Overview
Cogent People Inc. is seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer to join our IT team, working on software solutions that support data and analytics workflows.
This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable applications and services that support critical business operations and reporting. The position ensures alignment with business goals, user needs, and technical requirements through the development of cloud-native, mission-critical systems and integration with data pipelines and analytics workflows.
The ideal candidate will bring experience in software development, cloud technologies, data integration, and analytics workflows, along with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Do
- Develop software components and services in Python and/or Java that support data integrations, processing, and reporting
- Build and support cloud-native applications and data processing solutions within AWS environments
- Analyze existing applications for performance, reliability, and integration, and recommend improvements
- Work alongside and integrate with existing data pipelines and analytics workflows to support business data products
- Support automation and enhancement of reporting workflows, data processing, and operational support activities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve application and integration issues
- Collaborate with architects and business stakeholders to develop solutions for data-centric, integrated systems
- Conduct unit testing of developed code and support regression and acceptance testing
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4–6 years of experience in software development
- Proven hands-on experience with Python and/or Java
- Experience working with data pipelines and analytics workflows
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL
- Experience building and deploying applications or workflows on AWS cloud services
- Solid understanding of performance optimization, data quality, security best practices, and application integration
- Ability to conduct unit testing and support regression and acceptance testing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality, accurate work
- Proven ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
What Will Set You Apart
- AWS certification (Developer, Solutions Architect, or Data-related)
- Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar data platforms
- Experience with Splunk or similar observability/log analytics tools
- Experience with AI-assisted development tooling
- Experience with workflow orchestration and infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform
- Prior experience working in highly regulated environments, such as government contracts
- Adaptability to new and emerging technologies, with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
