Prospect Schools is seeking a Music Teacher to support our Sunset campus. This is a K–8 teaching position. Prospect teachers are grounded in an equity-driven approach following the principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum where instruction emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, global mindedness, and inclusive classroom practices. As an educator at Prospect, you will be part of a collaborative and high-performing instructional team and will report directly to a member of the school leadership team.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPlanning and InstructionDesign and deliver culturally responsive, engaging lessons for grades K-8 that support learning in an intentionally diverse classroom and actively engage a variety of different learning styles. Planning for 9 grades will require work outside of school hours.
Utilize data, strong content knowledge, and effective pedagogy to plan clear, objective-driven instruction to advance learning for all students.
Plan and lead a culminating student showcase at the end of each semester for students and families that reflects the work of that semester. All students are expected to participate and showcases will take place after school as an extension of the class.
Collaborate with the enrichment team through coaching, professional development, and, when applicable, advisory groups to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth
Perform additional duties assigned in alignment with K-8 needs of our instructional and enrichment model.
Set clear expectations and consistent routines to create a purposeful, warm, and supportive learning environment
Build a culturally sustaining classroom community where all students feel known, safe, valued, and respected by adults and peers
Contribute to the larger school community and environment by identifying and leveraging opportunities or events for displaying student work throughout the school building
Embody a “Team First” mindset by collaborating across grade level and content teams, participating in professional development, and partnering with the broader school community
Demonstrate a commitment to giving and receiving feedback for the purpose of continuous personal growth and betterment of the teaching and learning team
Collaborate with other classroom teachers or school administrators to increase visibility of student art or provide artwork for the greater school community
Work outside of school hours as needed to complete core responsibilities, including planning, preparation for student performances, and family events.
Perform additional staff duties as assigned that reinforce and support adult collaboration and shared accountability across the K-8 campus
Build strong partnerships with caregivers through consistent communication and regular updates on student progress
Use caregiver feedback to continuously improve instruction and the overall learning experience
Coordinate and facilitate family meetings as needed and attend any/all school wide caregiver events. Ensuring teacher engagement and presence at events like teacher conferences, being flexible with scheduling to accommodate caregiver availability as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned and needed to ensure strong caregiver partnership for all students
You have earned a Bachelor’s Degree
You have prior teaching experience
You are in the process of earning or have earned a New York Teaching License Certification. Learn more here
The salary range for this role starts at $63,960, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
