This role sits at the intersection of research administration, compliance, and sponsored programs management within a complex academic environment. The successful candidate will support both pre-award and post-award activities across a diverse and high-value research portfolio. Acting as a key liaison with federal agencies, nonprofits, and industry sponsors, the position ensures proposals and awards meet strict regulatory and institutional requirements. It combines analytical precision with advisory responsibilities, guiding faculty and administrators through funding processes and compliance frameworks. The role requires strong coordination across multiple internal and external stakeholders in a deadline-driven setting. It is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in structured yet fast-evolving research operations. This position directly contributes to enabling large-scale research initiatives and advancing institutional research impact.
In this role, you will oversee end-to-end support for sponsored research activities, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely execution across proposal development and award management processes.
- Manage pre-award activities including review, endorsement, and submission of complex research proposals to external sponsors.
- Validate required documentation such as budgets, compliance certifications, data management plans, and subaward agreements.
- Support post-award administration including award interpretation, classification (grant vs. contract), and sponsor reporting requirements.
- Provide guidance to faculty and departmental staff on sponsor regulations, institutional policies, and funding requirements.
- Coordinate prior approval requests, award modifications, and closeout processes across multiple stakeholders.
- Interface with sponsor systems and internal platforms to ensure accurate processing and tracking of sponsored projects.
- Support financial oversight tasks including budgeting, forecasting, and compliance monitoring for awarded funds.
This role requires strong experience in research administration and a deep understanding of sponsored programs, compliance frameworks, and higher education or large research environments.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in research administration, including pre-award proposal development and budget preparation.
- Strong knowledge of federal regulations, Uniform Guidance, and research compliance requirements (COI, export controls, human/animal research considerations).
- Experience with grants management systems (e.g., Cayuse SP, Cayuse 424 or equivalent platforms).
- Ability to interpret and apply sponsor guidelines across federal, state, nonprofit, and industry funding sources.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Word and Excel, and comfort working with multiple digital research systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Annual salary range: $101,519.14 – $121,519.14 (based on experience and qualifications).
