Agape Behavioral Center, A top workplace three years running, is currently seeking a Full-Time Vice President of Nursing for our Behavioral Healthcare facilities in South Florida!
Schedule: Full-Time - Located at oakland park office 4X/week & at Port St. Lucie location 1X/week
The VP of Nursing is responsible for the leadership, direction, and oversight of all nursing services across Agape’s facilities. The VP of Nursing directly supervises the Director of Nursing, along with nursing staff and provides administrative oversight of the APRN and PA team. They review and approve patients prior to admission, collaborate with the team on high-acuity patients, and serve as the escalation point for complex medical and emergency situations. The VP of Nursing ensures that nursing care, documentation, and medication management meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, and tracks department performance through established KPIs. They work in close collaboration with the provider staff and the Medical Director on all clinical matters and report to Executive President.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
1. Ensures that nursing operations across all facilities are in alignment with Agape Treatment Center's Mission Statement, strategic goals, and standards of care.
2. Reviews and approves prospective clients prior to admission to ensure medical appropriateness and that each facility can safely meet the client's level of care needs.
3. Collaborates with the Medical Director and Admissions staff on high-acuity admissions, including medically complex detox, co-occurring psychiatric conditions, and clients requiring enhanced monitoring.
4. Provides executive leadership, direct supervision, and performance management of the Director of Nursing and all RNs and LPNs across the three facilities.
5. Provides administrative oversight of the APRN and PA team, including scheduling, coverage, onboarding, and operational performance, in collaboration with the Medical Director, who retains clinical supervision.
6. Develops, standardizes, and maintains nursing policies, procedures, and clinical protocols (including detoxification, medication administration, and emergency response) across all facilities.
7. Ensures compliance with AHCA, DCF (65D-30), Joint Commission, DEA, Florida Board of Nursing, and all applicable federal and state regulations; leads survey readiness and corrective action plans.
8. Reviews and signs off on nursing documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with organizational policy and licensure standards.
9. Oversees nursing documentation standards across all facilities, including timely completion of admission documentation, nursing assessments, and physician order transcription, and conducts regular chart audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
10. Oversees medication management systems across all facilities, including controlled substance accountability, pharmacy relationships, medication error reporting, and trend analysis.
11. Establishes and monitors quality improvement, patient safety, and infection control programs; reviews incident reports, sentinel events, and adverse outcomes and leads root cause analyses.
12. Establishes, tracks, and reports nursing department KPIs (e.g., documentation compliance, sign-off timeliness, medication errors, incidents, admission turnaround, staffing, and turnover) and presents department performance to executive leadership.
13. Directs nursing workforce planning, including staffing models, scheduling oversight, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning across all sites.
14. Develops and oversees orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education programs for nursing staff.
15. Ensures all nursing staff maintain current licensure, certifications, and mandated training (CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, Infection Control, Fire Safety, and others required by organizational policy).
16. Conducts regular site visits to each facility (approx. weekly to the northern facilities) to monitor operations, support leadership, and ensure consistency in care delivery.
17. Leads and participates in regular nursing staff meetings, and participates in executive, quality, and interdisciplinary committee meetings.
18. Develops and manages the nursing department budget, including staffing costs, supplies, and equipment, and promotes efficient resource utilization across facilities.
19. Collaborates with the Medical Director, Clinical Director, Utilization Review, and executive leadership to align nursing services with clinical programming and payer/authorization requirements.
20. Serves as the escalation point for complex clinical, medical, and emergency situations, and ensures appropriate referral and transfer processes are in place at each site.
21. Maintains effective relationships with outside medical providers, hospitals, laboratories, and pharmacies on behalf of all facilities.
22. Fosters a culture of accountability, compassion, teamwork, and professional development within the nursing department.
Requirements:
A minimum of 2 years experience in a chemical dependency/psychiatric setting
Bachelors Degree in relevant field
1 year supervisory experience required
Florida RN license - current
Bachelors Degree in relevant field required
Active Florida Nursing license required; RN
Minimum of 2 years of progressive Nursing leadership experience within behavioral healthcare, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment.
Strong knowledge of behavioral health and substance use treatment, including residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care.
Demonstrated experience developing nursing leaders and building accountable, high-performing teams.
Experience working collaboratively with medical, clinical, operations, compliance, admissions, and executive leadership.
Strong communication, conflict-resolution, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Ability to balance nursing excellence with operational effectiveness and organizational objectives.
