Augustana University invites applications for a Success Advisor in our Student Success Center.

Under the direction of the Director of the Student Success Center, the individual fosters the success of students and also empowers them to achieve their educational and vocational goals. Throughout the student experience, the Success Advisor designs services that maximize students’ learning, persistence, vocational engagement, and degree completion.

Success Advisor responsibilities include the following:

  • Meet individually with students and host diverse events to foster career readiness and engagement.
  • Educate students on job and internship search strategies, including resume writing, interviewing, and networking.
  • Launch appointment campaigns and connect with students eligible for experiential learning.
  • Teach or co-teach assigned section of FYSM 1200 (Vocation Within and Beyond Augustana).
  • Follow-up with graduates to track their destinations for the annual career outcomes report.
  • Maintain confidential records of academic performance and student interventions.
  • Manage multiple priorities, enter case notes into Navigate Retention Software, and maintain appointment schedule.
  • Pre-register incoming first-year students prior to New Student Registration and meet individually with new students who are unable to visit campus during the summer.
  • Follow up with individuals not yet registered and support students in academic distress.
  • Represent the Student Success Center at admission events during explore Augustana fairs or admission informational panels.
  • Provide academic advising to students on academic probation including teaching GENL 1150: Foundations for Academic Success, a course designed for students who have been placed on academic probation for the first time.
  • Behave professionally in ways that align with the core values of Augustana University and the code of ethics of the professional associations (e.g. National Academic Advising Association; National
  • Association of Colleges and Employers, National Career Development Association); comply with federal, state, and local employment legislation as a third-party employer consultant.
  • Additional responsibilities include:

  • Manage our relationship with our career placement and job posting software (currently Symplicity). Promote and market the platform to students, manage job postings, coordinate employer relationships.
  • Coordinate student employment for the Student Success Center including hiring and scheduling of student workers.
  • Plan and execute events including the part-time job fair, National Career Development Month, camp fair and programming for graduating seniors.
  • Coordinate the Student Advisory Board in the Student Success Center.
  • Manage external social media accounts including Instagram.
  • Qualifications for this position:

  • A Master’s degree is preferred. An advanced degree in college student personnel counseling, academic advising, or higher education preferred.
  • Experience in academic advising, career services, or student support roles is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated desire to work in a private, church-related liberal arts environment.
  • Outstanding helping and interpersonal skills and awareness as well as an ability to support a variety of students.
  • Familiarity with emerging student success theories, retention models, and best practices in student development.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, retention platforms (such as Navigate), social media, and job search tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to market events, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and a commitment to contributing to a collaborative team culture.
  • Interacting with students, faculty, and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view, and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must, be a top value of the candidate.
