Financial Controller

The Financial Controller will drive the integrity of financial reporting and the financial planning process for August Bioservices. Additionally, they will lead accounting operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide strategic financial insights to enable scalable growth in the biotech sector.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.

  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes; oversee the timely, accurate monthly financial statements and management reports, including board, lender and investor reporting.

  • Support the development of appropriate accounting activities for key workstreams for August Bio including payroll, manufacturing and cost accounting, as well as customer deposit and pass through activities,

  • Oversee cash flow management, working capital optimization, and treasury controls; manage banking relationships.

  • Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls; implement and maintain internal controls; coordinate internal and external audits.

  • Manage and develop the finance team; assign responsibilities, set goals, and provide coaching.

  • Support regulatory and compliance reporting (tax, statutory filings, grant reporting if applicable).

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, R&D, operations, and commercial teams to drive appropriate accounting processes, cost containment, pricing strategy, and profitability optimization.

  • Lead ERP/financial systems initiatives; own chart of accounts, cost centers, financial data integrity, and automation opportunities.

  • Develop scalable accounting policies and procedures; document processes and maintain robust internal controls.

  • Support financial planning and analysis activities including forecasting, providing analysis of results versus forecast, and supporting pricing decisions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/controller experience; biotech or life sciences and manufacturing experience (including pass through activities). Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls; experience with SOX/compliance frameworks.

  • Proven experience with ERP system implementation and maintenance (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and financial consolidation.

  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with BI tools and financial planning software.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities; ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in early-stage or growth-stage companies; familiarity with ERP implementations.

  • Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition and cost accounting methodologies.
