LIMITED-TIME ASSIGNMENT: This position is a temporary, limited-time assignment anticipated to last approximately eight (8) months to provide coverage during an employee leave of absence. This role requires frequent travel throughout Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island based on operational and contract needs.

Position Summary

The Temporary Assistant Manager of Janitorial Operations provides temporary coverage during a manager’s leave and supports the Manager of Janitorial Operations with daily staffing, supervision, service quality, inventory control, safety, and customer concerns, including coverage of FAA contract sites. The position has authority to make day-to-day operating decisions in collaboration with the Manager of Janitorial Operations, modifies schedules to meet business and contract demands, and directly supervises assigned employees across multiple work settings. The position performs substantial hands-on janitorial coverage when staffing levels or service needs require it.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Manager of Janitorial Operations and directly supervises 11 to 20 employees. The position supports an overall operation of 26 to 100 employees and coordinates daily decisions with the Manager of Janitorial Operations. Authority includes work assignments, schedule changes, quality inspections, inventory and supply levels, inspection of janitorial closets, responses to customer concerns, and employee accountability within established policies and direction.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Lead daily janitorial coverage across assigned locations so required cleaning services are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule.
  • Direct 11 to 20 assigned employees by communicating work expectations, assigning coverage, monitoring attendance, and following up on incomplete or unacceptable work.
  • Modify schedules and staffing assignments, in collaboration with the Manager of Janitorial Operations, to meet changing business operations, contract demands, absences, and urgent coverage needs.
  • Inspect completed work, document results, address service deficiencies, and follow through until required standards are met.
  • Respond to customer concerns promptly and communicate significant service, staffing, safety, or contract issues to the Manager of Janitorial Operations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to schedules, attendance, inspections, incidents, inventory, supplies, equipment, employee concerns, and assigned operations.
  • Support employee accountability and corrective action in collaboration with the Manager of Janitorial Operations and Human Resources.
  • Manage janitorial inventory and supply levels, inspect location janitorial closets for organization, safety, stock, and equipment condition, and address shortages or deficiencies before service is affected.
  • Enforce safety procedures, chemical-handling requirements, facility rules, customer requirements, and applicable organizational policies.
  • Perform substantial janitorial work and heavy coverage when staffing is short, urgent coverage is needed, or service commitments are at risk.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently between assigned locations.
  • Experience operating commercial janitorial equipment safely.
  • Experience directing employees, assigning daily work, modifying schedules, and addressing performance concerns.
  • Ability to complete applicable organizational background checks and customer or facility screening.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the federal clearance, background screening, identification, and badging required for access to FAA and other government facilities.
  • Ability to read work instructions, cleaning schedules, safety information, chemical labels, and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to prepare basic written records, schedules, inspection results, incident documentation, inventory records, and email communications.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and hours outside the regular schedule.
  • Ability to perform substantial janitorial duties when staffing or service conditions require heavy coverage.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting janitorial services across multiple locations, including federal or other government contract sites.
  • Experience conducting quality inspections and documenting corrective actions.
  • Experience managing inventory, supply levels, equipment, and janitorial closets.
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, chemical safety, equipment care, and supply controls.
  • Experience providing temporary supervisory or acting-management coverage.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, twist, and climb stairs while inspecting or performing janitorial work.
  • Lift and carry supplies, waste, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Push and pull cleaning carts, waste containers, vacuums, floor machines, and other janitorial equipment.
  • Grip, handle, and operate commercial cleaning tools, machines, controls, and containers.
  • Perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements related to cleaning, inspection, documentation, and equipment operation.
  • Use a computer, telephone, mobile device, keyboard, and screen for scheduling, communication, inspections, and documentation.
  • Drive for extended periods between assigned locations and enter and exit vehicles throughout the workday.
  • Hear and respond to employees, customers, alarms, equipment sounds, telephone calls, and safety instructions.
  • See work areas, inspection conditions, labels, written instructions, hazards, and equipment controls.
  • Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed at Contract Sites, including FAA facilities, as well as Headquarters, Day Sites, and Community Work Sites, with frequent travel between assigned locations.
  • Work environments may include customer and government facilities, offices, program locations, public areas, restrooms, vehicles, storage spaces, and janitorial closets.
  • Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, dust, waste, odors, wet surfaces, noise, powered cleaning equipment, and changing indoor or outdoor temperatures may occur.
  • The position requires regular interaction with employees, supervisors, customers, government facility representatives, coworkers, and other operational contacts.
  • Work hours may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and frequent schedule changes needed to meet business operations, contract demands, and service coverage.
  • The position may respond to service failures, employee absences, customer concerns, equipment problems, incidents, or other time-sensitive operational needs.
  • Frequent travel across Connecticut and to assigned locations in Newport, Rhode Island, and Fairview, Pennsylvania is required. Additional travel may be required based on operational needs.

Compensation

  • This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable law and organizational policy.
  • Compensation must comply with applicable organizational practices and any wage, health and welfare, prevailing-wage, or contract requirements associated with the assigned work.
