IT OPERATIONS ENGINEER
Our Story
The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community‐based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low‐ income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.
Position Description
The IT Operations Engineer is a hands-on technical position responsible for supporting, administering, maintaining, and improving the organization's technology environment. The role provides support across multiple technical tiers, ranging from complex end-user and application issues through advanced infrastructure troubleshooting, systems engineering, automation, and technical project work. This position serves as a senior technical resource within the IT function and works closely with IT leadership, internal staƯ, technology vendors, and managed service providers. While the position may assist with Level 1 and Level 2 support when operational needs require, its primary focus is advanced troubleshooting, engineering, systems administration, automation, application support, and continuous improvement of IT operations.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Administration
- Administer and support Windows-based server and workstation environments. · Support Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange Online, and related Microsoft technologies. Troubleshoot complex operating system, authentication, networking, application, and infrastructure issues.
- Perform configuration, maintenance, patching, upgrades, and remediation activities across supported systems.
- Assist with management and troubleshooting of cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
- Support endpoint management, security controls, software deployment, and system configuration.
- Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, deployments, and other technical projects.
- Identify recurring technical problems and develop long-term solutions rather than relying solely on incident-by-incident remediation.
Automation & PowerShell
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts and other automation tools to improve IT operational eƯiciency.
- Automate repetitive administrative, reporting, deployment, monitoring, and remediation activities.
- Develop scripts for Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, endpoint management, and Windows administration where appropriate.
IT Service Management & Ticketing Systems
- Support administration, configuration, and enhancement of the organization's IT service management/ticketing platform.
- Develop or modify workflows, forms, rules, integrations, reports, and automation within the ticketing system.
- Assist IT leadership with improving ticket routing, escalation processes, service categorization, reporting, and operational workflows.
- Perform programming, scripting, API integration, or other technical development related to the IT service management platform when required.
Security & Operational Support
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of security controls across endpoints, servers, identities, and cloud services.
- Support vulnerability remediation, patch management, endpoint protection, access management, and security hardening activities.
- Follow established change management, security, documentation, and IT governance procedures.
- Assist with technical requirements associated with audits, cybersecurity assessments, and compliance initiatives.

Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related discipline preferred.
- Relevant industry certifications may be considered in combination with education and experience, depending on the technical requirements of the position.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in information technology, technical support, help desk, desktop support, network support, or a related technical environment.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, connectivity, user-access, and general IT support issues.
- Experience providing technical assistance to end users in a professional or enterprise environment.
- Experience documenting technical issues, resolutions, and support activities.
- Experience working within established IT policies, security practices, and escalation procedures.
- Exposure to networking, information security, systems administration, or infrastructure support preferred.
