Job Description
Position Overview:
Boone County Health Center is seeking a dependable, motivated, and customer-focused Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology team. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this position plays a key role in maintaining the secure, reliable, and efficient technology infrastructure that supports approximately 400 employees across clinical, administrative, and operational areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, administer, maintain, and secure the hospital’s physical and virtual server infrastructure.
- Administer Windows Server and Linux server environments.
- Manage Nutanix AHV, VMware ESXi, VMware vSphere, virtual machines, clusters, storage, performance, and capacity.
- Monitor server availability, system performance, hardware health, storage utilization, logs, and other infrastructure components.
- Plan, test, document, and deploy server, operating system, firmware, and third-party application updates.
- Review Microsoft Defender alerts, security logs, vulnerability findings, and recommendations, and complete appropriate remediation.
- Support IT security activities, including endpoint protection, access control, vulnerability management, system hardening, security monitoring, and incident response.
- Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, licensing, multifactor authentication, and user access.
- Onboard and offboard employees by creating, modifying, and removing accounts, application access, roles, licenses, security groups, and permissions.
- Support the hospital’s Electronic Medical Record system and other clinical and business applications.
- Administer and monitor automated backup and disaster recovery processes, including Zerto replication, scheduled backup jobs, failure alerts, retention, and recovery testing.
- Install, renew, document, and troubleshoot SSL/TLS certificates used by servers, websites, and applications.
- Troubleshoot server, application, account, workstation, and basic LAN connectivity issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switching, and wireless networking.
- Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot computers, thin clients, zero clients, virtual desktop access, printers, scanners, monitors, and related peripherals.
- Install, rack, cable, configure, maintain, and decommission physical servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and related hardware.
- Provide timely and professional technical assistance by phone, remote-support tools, ticketing system, and in person.
- Maintain accurate system documentation and coordinate with hospital departments, IT team members, application owners, vendors, and technology partners.
- Participate in infrastructure projects, application implementations, system upgrades, disaster recovery exercises, and process improvements.
- Perform other technology-related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
- An equivalent combination of relevant work experience, technical education, military experience, training, and industry certifications will be considered.
- Two to five years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, cybersecurity, technical support, or a related IT role preferred.
- Previous healthcare or EMR/EHR experience is preferred but not required.
Candidates with less direct systems administration experience are encouraged to apply if they have a strong IT foundation, demonstrated troubleshooting ability, excellent customer service skills, and a desire to grow into the position.
