Materials Associate
(Contract-to-hire)

Sigma Design has collaborated with a leading defense technology company seeking an experienced Embedded Firmware Engineer to join their facility in Costa Mesa, CA. This company specializes in autonomous systems and next-generation defense technologies. This position is contract to hire and full -time onsite.

While on contract you are eligible for:

Primary Function:
The Materials Associate is responsible for supporting shipping, receiving, inventory management, material movement, and warehouse operations to ensure materials and finished products are accurately processed and available to support production and distribution schedules. This role works closely with production, shipping, and other cross-functional teams to maintain inventory accuracy and ensure the timely movement of materials throughout the facility and between company locations as needed.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Complete cycle counts and other inventory activities with a strong focus on inventory accuracy
  • Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, locating, and recording materials and supplies, and reporting shortages or discrepancies
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment to safely move materials and products
  • Coordinate or perform material transfers between company locations as needed to support production and distribution requirements
  • Expedite the movement of materials, parts, and assemblies within and between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse and material storage environment.
  • Follow established procedures for the handling, packaging, and transportation of materials, including hazardous materials when applicable
  • Accurately maintain inventory and shipping records using ERP, warehouse management, and other inventory control systems
  • Collaborate with production, shipping, purchasing, and other cross-functional teams to identify and resolve material or inventory issues
  • Provide responsive customer service to internal teams and support material needs in a timely manner
  • Adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and business needs in a fast-paced production environment
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a warehouse associate, materials associate, inventory specialist, or equivalent role preferred
  • Ability to work 1st or 2nd shift and overtime as required based on business needs
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Experience operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment preferred
  • Experience working in the aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industry preferred
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, warehouse management systems, and/or inventory control tools preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office or similar business software preferred
  • Experience with lot, serial, and/or batch tracking preferred
  • Experience packaging and handling hazardous materials or shipments preferred
  • Strong inventory management and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules based on business needs
  • Ability to safely and effectively handle materials and operate warehouse equipment
  • Ability to work onsite and travel between company locations as needed
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance preferred
  • Active or recent U.S. security clearance preferred
  • Compliance (background check, ITAR, vaccine, etc.)
    • ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States (“U.S. person” as defined by ITAR)
    • Background - Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment
Standard warehouse/production environment which requires regular sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the facility. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Temperature of work area may be affected by outside temperatures.
