Job Title: Forklift Operator / Truck Loader – 2nd Shift

Department Name: Shipping & Receiving

Reports to (title): Supervisor

Business Unit: FM

Job Summary: Responsible for the safe and efficient movement, staging, loading, and unloading of materials and finished products throughout the warehouse and shipping areas.

This position plays an important role in ensuring customer orders are accurately prepared, products are loaded safely and efficiently, and trucks are ready for scheduled deliveries. The successful candidate will operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment, maintain an organized work area, and work closely with the warehouse, shipping, and operations teams.

Essential Job Functions:

Forklift & Material Handling

· Safely operate forklifts and other approved material-handling equipment.

· Move, stage, load, and unload products and materials throughout the facility.

· Verify product quantities, labels, and locations before moving or loading materials.

· Properly stage products for outbound shipments and production requirements.

· Inspect forklift and equipment before each shift and report any safety or maintenance concerns.

· Follow all OSHA, company, and equipment safety requirements.

Truck Loading & Shipping

· Load trucks and trailers safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established loading procedures.

· Verify that the correct products and quantities are being loaded for each shipment.

· Arrange and secure products appropriately to minimize damage during transportation.

· Assist with unloading inbound shipments as needed.

· Communicate discrepancies, damaged product, or loading concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

· Maintain an organized and efficient shipping/loading area.

Safety & Quality

· Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

· Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, equipment, and changing conditions within the facility.

· Use required PPE and maintain safe work practices at all times.

· Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, equipment damage, or product damage immediately.

· Maintain product quality and prevent damage during handling and loading.

· Participate in required safety and equipment training.

Teamwork & Productivity

· Work effectively with warehouse, shipping, production, and operations personnel.

· Meet established productivity and loading expectations while maintaining safety and accuracy.

· Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding priorities and operational needs.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

· Tracking: Documenting the arrival, departure, and movement of goods and tracking inventory and customer orders

· Other tasks: Building pallets, picking pallets, moving hazardous materials, and reconfiguring racking

· Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

Skills & Abilities:

· Loading and unloading: Forklift operators need to be able to move and stack foods, and load and unload them from vehicles like trucks, ships, and airplanes. It’s also important to make sure loads are secure before transporting them.

· Packing: Forklift operators often spend a lot of time packing and labeling products from delivery. They should be able to pack boxes, label them clearly, and use packaging materials like tape and bubble wrap to secure packages.

· Communication: Forklift operators need to be able to interact effectively with co-workers, vendors, and sometimes customers. They should be able to speak clearly, listen attentively, and communicate through email, telephone, and written notes.

· Attention to detail: Forklift operators need to pay attention to detail when performing maintenance inspections on forklifts and other equipment to ensure everything is in working order. They should also stay present while working so they can notice any issues with the forklift’s operation right away

Required

· Previous forklift experience.

· Ability to safely operate a forklift in a warehouse/shipping environment.

· Ability to read and follow basic written and verbal instructions.

· Ability to accurately identify products, quantities, labels, and shipment information.

· Reliable attendance and punctuality.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Commitment to workplace safety.

Preferred

· Previous experience loading trucks or trailers.

· Experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, distribution, or shipping environment.

· Current forklift certification.

· Experience working a second or third shift.

· Experience using RF scanners, warehouse management systems, or similar technology.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing.
  • Operating a forklift for extended periods.
  • Loading and unloading materials and products.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials as required by the operation.

· Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

· The position requires standing for extended periods of time.

  • Working in warehouse and loading dock environments where temperatures and conditions may vary.
  • Working around moving equipment, trucks, trailers, and other warehouse activity.

Work Environment

This is a warehouse and shipping environment with regular exposure to forklifts, trucks, trailers, loading docks, warehouse equipment, and varying temperatures.

The position requires consistent attention to safety and surroundings, particularly while operating material-handling equipment and working around moving vehicles.

Attendance & Schedule

· Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

· Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM plus OT as needed

· Employees must be available to work their assigned schedule and, when business needs require, overtime or additional hours with appropriate notice.
