Safety Specialist

Location: 9203 F Street, Omaha, NE, 68127, US

Job Summary: Coordinates and implements all Omaha Steaks safety and ergonomics programs to reduce the number and severity of accidents and injuries. Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local government safety rules and regulations and compliance with all company safety and ergonomic requirements and guidelines.

Essential job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and implements all Omaha Steaks safety programs and ergonomics programs to promote a safe work environment. Facilitates safety committee meetings, ergonomics committee meetings, OSHA VPP activities (if applicable), and all other required safety activities. Measures effectiveness of each program and maintains documentation of all ergonomic-related modifications and activities.
  • Assists in facilitating new hire safety and ergonomics training, when needed. Monitors new employee job techniques and assists with on-the-job training as needed.
  • Trains and counsels team members, supervisors, and managers on safety and ergonomic program rules, guidelines, and safe work techniques. Stays informed of current adult learning techniques and methods, and identifies ways to implement best practices. Assembles and maintains all safety and ergonomics training documentation.
  • Assesses each facility on a routine basis to determine compliance with all federal, state, and local government safety rules and regulations and compliance with all company safety and ergonomic requirements and guidelines. Recommends course of action to improve compliance.
  • Investigates all work-related accidents, incidents, and near-misses and identifies root causes. Makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence and tracks implementation and completion. Manages the execution of the sites return-to-work program and facilitates communication with the Occupational Health Nurse(s) and/or Human Resources. Maintains confidentiality of all medical and personnel-related records and issues.
  • Supports other risk management staff members facilities and projects and is cross-trained in all facilities. Provides assistance during the holiday season by assisting with seasonal physical abilities testing, seasonal new hire safety training classes, and safety coverage of Central Fulfillment.
  • Provides creative ideas and critical feedback, including sharing opportunities and business challenges with the Environmental Health and Safety and HR staff to improve department effectiveness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 4- year college degree or equivalent
  • Major coursework in safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, or training or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years experience in safety and/or training in a manufacturing or distribution center environment; Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills required
  • Ability to learn and understand how power equipment is operated.
  • Ability to read and understand OSHA and EPA regulatory language.
  • Ability to speak fluent Spanish and English and have proficient interpreting and translating skills.
  • PC and computer operations knowledge proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have effective oral and written communication, interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Must be able to initiate, organize and prioritize a large number of projects.
  • Must have knowledge of adult training techniques and possess the skills to effectively facilitate and present training classes to a diverse group of employees.
