Job Summary
The Middle/High School Language Arts Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, engaging, Christ-centered instruction in English Language Arts for students in grades 6–12. The teacher will inspire students to become effective readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and critical thinkers while developing a lifelong appreciation for literature and communication.

The teacher is expected to maintain a structured, positive, and academically rigorous classroom that promotes excellence, character development, and spiritual growth. Instruction shall align with Florida academic standards, the school's curriculum, and the mission of Providence Christian Preparatory School.

The teacher is expected to work collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, parents, and students while demonstrating professionalism, integrity, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum
Plan and deliver engaging daily lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and instructional framework.
Teach reading comprehension, literature, vocabulary, grammar, writing, spelling, research, speaking, and listening skills.
Integrate biblical principles and a Christian worldview into classroom instruction where appropriate.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of students.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including:
Direct instruction
Guided practice
Cooperative learning
Small group instruction
Independent learning
Project-based learning
Technology integration
Develop lessons that encourage higher-order thinking, creativity, and problem solving.
Foster a love of reading through exposure to quality literature and independent reading opportunities.

Writing Instruction
Provide systematic instruction in:
Narrative writing
Informational writing
Expository writing
Persuasive writing
Argumentative writing
Research writing
Literary analysis
Grammar and mechanics
Sentence structure
Editing and proofreading
MLA formatting (high school)
Research skills
Citation of sources
Digital literacy

Reading Instruction
Teach students to:
Analyze literature
Interpret informational texts
Identify author's purpose
Determine themes
Analyze plot development
Evaluate evidence
Compare texts
Interpret figurative language
Expand academic vocabulary
Increase reading fluency
Improve comprehension strategies

Assessment Responsibilities
Prepare and administer quizzes, tests, projects, essays, presentations, and other assessments.
Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
Maintain accurate grade records.
Provide timely feedback on student work.
Analyze student performance data to guide instruction.
Prepare students for standardized assessments including MAP Growth and applicable state assessments.

The teacher shall:

Parent Communication
Maintain professional communication by:
Responding to parent inquiries promptly.
Communicating student progress regularly.

Participating in parent conferences.
Working collaboratively with families to support student success.

Qualifications

Required
Bachelor's Degree in English, Language Arts, Education, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to teach middle and/or high school students.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Performance Expectations

Hours of work may vary. Typical schedules are set between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday.
