Department Overview

The Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery is one of the largest divisions within the Department of Surgery, comprised of a team of dedicated faculty in support of OHSU as a Level 1 trauma center. Our trauma surgeons provide expert care to the most seriously injured patients in the state, instruct future generations of trauma surgeons, and conduct research into improving and advancing the treatment of trauma patients. Its surgical critical care fellowship program sponsors four fellows each year.

Function/Duties of Position

The appointee shall provide clinical services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the University's missions of patient care, teaching, outreach, and public service. This position is under the supervision of the Head of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. The appointee will provide trauma, critical care, and acute care surgery services, including inpatient care, operative management, emergency consultation, and trauma call coverage as assigned. Responsibilities include participation in multidisciplinary patient care activities and support of the clinical operations of the Division.

The appointee will contribute to the education of residents, fellows, medical students, and other healthcare professionals through clinical teaching and mentorship opportunities associated with patient care activities. Work schedules and call assignments will be determined by the Head of the Division based on operational and patient care needs. The general pattern of working hours may vary to support clinical coverage requirements, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other periods requiring supplemental coverage. Participation in scholarly activities, quality improvement initiatives, and educational programs is encouraged and may be pursued consistent with the needs of the Division and the interests of the appointee.


Required Qualifications

Candidates must be board certified/eligible in general surgery and be able to sit for the certificate of added qualifications in surgical critical care. Candidates must also be eligible for licensure in the State of Oregon.
