Job Description
Purpose: To support SVDPLA Vincentian Services in meeting performance expectations and delivering customer service excellence while increasing access to services and visibility within communities. This program will foster trust and collaboration with individuals and community partners. The Mobility Program strives to address unmet needs such as food insecurity, clothing, water, and other essential supplies, particularly for populations that are geographically isolated. It is designed to enhance existing services and provide a rapid response to the needs of communities and disaster situations.
Position Functions: The MOS Driver is a flexible and quickly adaptable team player. The MOS Driver requires a high level of motivation and the ability to build relationships with Conference members and community partners in order to serve and promote the work of the Society. The MOS Driver plays a role in facilitating opportunities for Conferences and members to enhance services that promote Spirituality, Friendship, and Service, while also providing visibility and outreach to communities, at-risk populations, membership recruitment, and the overall promotion of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Tasks:
- Safely operate and maintain assigned vehicle and service trailer. Regularly inspect vehicle and trailer prior to leaving facilities, as well as maintain documentation of inspections.
- Coordinate and execute vehicle maintenance appointments.
- Regularly follow all traffic laws and driving regulations. Remain focused and alert to all street signs, pedestrians, and other road hazards.
- Regularly and accurately report and document all mileage, fuel usage, defects, damage, maintenance needs, and incidents to Department leadership.
- Follow safety protocols to load and unload goods, in a responsible manner, protecting goods and employees.
- Support organizational mission, values, and customer service expectations.
- Assist in securing and distribution of goods such as food, clothing, essential items, or emergency response supplies.
- Work collaboratively with members and staff to conduct outreach or promotional activities.
- Support during Invitations to Serve (ITS) and recruitment events and overall promotional initiatives.
- Plan and follow efficient travel routes and schedules. When necessary, adapt to changing schedules, priorities, and community needs.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the organizational structure, Conference life, and membership of SVDP.
- Present a friendly, cooperative attitude to members, donors, public, and community partners.
- May assist other departments when the trailer is not in use.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Class “C” or higher California Driver License.
- Before the start of the shift verify that you have the following: Steel toe boots, gloves, back-support belt. If you are missing any of these items or they are damaged, please report this to the supervisor.
- Perform warm-up stretches before starting your regular duties on a daily basis.
- Verify that your truck has the proper working and safety equipment.
- If there are any deliveries on the truck, make sure that they are complete; they are securely and safely tied down. Page 1 of 2 ?
- Perform a walk around inspection of the entire truck and services unit and look for the following: inspect tires, all lights including emergency lights, parking brakes, any leaking fluids, report all check engine lights or any malfunctions of any type on the written inspection report as well as to the supervisor immediately.
- Driver must wear seatbelts at all times when inside the truck; not doing so will result in immediate disciplinary action, NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Perform safe driving techniques at all times.
- Use the parking brake and chock when necessary as well as turning the wheels in or out depending on the parking situation.
- In any abnormal parking situation check in with the dispatcher for approval and make sure you are maintaining a safe working environment.
- Always practice proper lifting techniques when loading and unloading items to and from the truck and service trailer. Use proper safety techniques and procedures at all times.
- You must take your lunch and breaks on time before returning to base. You are entitled to take a 15 minute break after 2 hours from your starting time; you are entitled to take a 30-minute lunch after 4-5 hours from your starting time; you are entitled to a second break 6 hours after your starting time.
- If receiving donations: You must follow the safety procedure of NOT going through any donations; NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Upon arrival to base, park in a safe manner. Proper safety techniques must be used when unloading.
- Driver is responsible for verifying all the safety equipment of the truck and services trailer is still in usable condition and ready to be used the following day before the end of the shift.
Essential Job Functions:
- Requires ability to rapidly and constantly lift large and heavy packages and boxes and to repeatedly load and unload large boxes and furniture throughout shift.
- Perform warm-up stretches before starting your regular duties on a daily basis.
- Stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
- Must be able to lift minimum of 50lbs without assistance and push and pull up to 100lbs.
- Regular and on-time attendance is critical; hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week. Schedule often includes weekends and some evenings.
