Description: Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting mechanical components, assemblies, and systems used in electrical distribution products, enclosures, structural frames, and modular power solutions. This position leads mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring products are safe, manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Working independently on complex engineering assignments, the Mechanical Engineer II collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Project Management to support new product development, improve existing designs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Product Development
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD software.
  • Create, review, and maintain engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.
  • Develop innovative design solutions that improve manufacturability, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and design validations to ensure product integrity.
  • Ensure designs comply with customer specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes.
Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Provide technical support to fabrication and assembly teams during prototype and production builds.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues related to materials, tolerances, fit, assembly methods, and product performance.
  • Lead design-for-manufacturability (DFM) initiatives to improve production efficiency.
  • Support prototype development, first article builds, and engineering validation activities.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to implement process improvements and tooling enhancements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate closely with Electrical Engineering to ensure proper mechanical and electrical integration.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Procurement to evaluate materials, components, and supplier capabilities.
  • Support Project Managers in meeting customer schedules, technical requirements, and project milestones.
  • Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions as required.
Quality, Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure designs meet applicable UL, NEC, NEMA, and customer requirements where applicable.
  • Support quality investigations through root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and revision control in accordance with company procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering change management processes.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, manufacturability, standardization, and cost reduction.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering standards, templates, and design practices.
  • Support the development of standardized mechanical designs and modular product platforms.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on design and manufacturing best practices.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 4–7 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software and engineering documentation.
  • Experience developing mechanical designs from concept through production.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
Preferred
  • Experience designing electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, control panels, or modular power systems.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Experience in engineered-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) and design validation techniques.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and manufacturing issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently walk throughout manufacturing and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while supporting production activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb, or work around manufacturing equipment.
