Sr. Director - Program Management Office

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Director - Program Management Office based in the United States.

Lead the strategic direction of an enterprise Program Management Office responsible for driving large-scale business transformation and organizational change. This executive-level role combines portfolio governance, program leadership, and operational excellence to ensure high-impact initiatives are successfully delivered and aligned with long-term business objectives. Working across multiple business functions, you will establish governance frameworks, optimize execution processes, and champion measurable business outcomes. Accountabilities
  • Define and execute the vision, operating model, and long-term roadmap for the enterprise Program Management Office.
  • Translate strategic business objectives into a prioritized portfolio of enterprise programs with clearly defined outcomes, funding strategies, and execution plans.
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks, executive steering committees, portfolio reviews, and reporting processes that enable informed decision-making.
  • Lead the delivery of large, cross-functional, multi-year business transformation programs using hybrid project management methodologies.
  • Oversee enterprise planning, resource allocation, dependency management, risk mitigation, financial oversight, and benefits realization across the program portfolio.
  • Build and continuously improve enterprise change management capabilities, ensuring successful organizational adoption of strategic initiatives.
  • Develop executive dashboards, portfolio performance reports, and value realization metrics to provide transparency and support strategic planning.
  • Ensure programs comply with corporate governance, security, privacy, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with business leaders across operations, technology, finance, product, marketing, compliance, and external partners to align priorities and execution.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Program Management Office team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee program management tools and related strategic partnerships.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise program management, portfolio management, or strategic business transformation.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience managing enterprise program portfolios or Program Management Office functions.
  • Professional certification such as PMP, PgMP, or a comparable program management credential; candidates actively pursuing certification will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale cross-functional initiatives spanning business and technology organizations.
  • Strong expertise in enterprise governance, portfolio management, strategic planning, and organizational change management.
  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including business case development, investment planning, budget oversight, and value realization tracking.
  • Proven ability to lead matrixed teams while managing competing priorities in complex organizational environments.
  • Experience within insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
  • Master's degree (MBA or related discipline), experience modernizing enterprise PMOs, or formal change management certification (such as Prosci) is considered an advantage.
